A larger piece for me, this one is 20 x 26 inches on Handbook sanded paper. This is the view from my cabin portch looking down into the valley below as typically seen on a cloudy, rainy day.

A lot of this painting is done in iridescent and metallic soft pastels but some areas are less so. The evergreens are old hemlocks with a ridge of mostly oaks closer to the viewer, winter.

I really need to get off my butt and finish this painting. Aiming for a lot of softness here with very subtle colors. Not sure what else I want to do with it so I’m living with it a while. Getting Tru-Vue Museum glass for this is not going to be cheap. I hear they also make a static free acrylic so maybe I’ll try that.

This one is really hard to get decent photos to show the colors well. I’ll get a better image outside when it’s finished. So much color not showing as well as I’d like.

Beautiful. Nice job on the mist. Reminds me of the times back in 1971 when I drove through the Saluda mountains on a two lane road between I26 and I40 before the expressway was completed.

Beautiful! Is there really much more to do?

I’m really not sure. I’m used to doing a lot more detail and higher color in my paintings and this one is so soft and not very detailed by comparison it kind of still feels unfinished. And yet I did want to push outside of my comfort zone. Definitely succeeded there! So I don’t know yet.

Comments are definitely welcome on this one. If I can manage to get better photos of it that would help. Maybe some detail shots. This was also the first painting I began to try out the iridescent and metallic pastels I got around Christmas though you can’t really see that in my photos either.

I like the movement of the clouds you captured through the valleys. Beautiful!

Beautiful. The fog seems to dance between the trees.
I don’t think it needs more.
