I finished mine also and took a photo and had my tablet convert the color pic to black and white which showed me where I went wrong in a few places. So I am correcting them now. I am learning so much about color values.
Regards,
Cindy
C/C always welcome
"Painting is my meditation"April 15, 2021 at 8:11 am #1400440Ozeanbay I had hoped that 2018 glazing challenge would have been the one thing that was lost forever when the site changed over! I wondered why I couldn’t remember having done a painting for it and then I saw what I had come up with back then! Ouch.
This time round my grisaille is much better already, so that is much more promising.
I suppose I should wrap it up and get onto the glazing.

April 15, 2021 at 2:43 pm #1400539Ozean …. I suspected I was already preaching to the converted when I mentioned the tonal strip!??…… I know your work will be excellent …. I also suspect you worry too much!
I worked from the tablet screen …. first by converting to greyscale ( computers are a great boon for this!) then from the colour version when glazing. I find I use very, very little colour in that process …. tiny amounts of paint. It doesn’t matter if you’re using student grade paint, for this especially I think ….. and, btw, DR System 3 paints are good, I actually like them better than their artist version paints!
Colin …. I remember when you first joined us here …. my goodness, you’ve come a long way since then …. I love the way you apply paint!
Do you remember the Paint-Along threads? I loved those!
Cindy, well done on finishing too and yes, it’s so easy for colour to stop you seeing the tone!
Cheers, Maureen

What you produced then was nothing compared to what I know you can do now. You really have come so far in your painting ability! I did notice that your sharp sense of humor hasn’t changed though.
OldHobbyist–I also noticed in the 2018 Different Strokes that you mentioned possibly not being a part of these challenges due to life events, but I’m very grateful that you are still a part and are hosting! Thank you.
Maureen–LOL, thanks for the encouragement. Yes, I do worry too much and have to fight the perfectionist monster in my head…though often the paintings seem to come out better than I think they will. I started on the glazing today. Tiny amounts of paint and a lot of medium! It’s coming along. Maybe the student grade paint will help. I’ll keep my eyes open for the DR System 3 paints.
P.S. It would be great to have a Paint Along happen again!
April 16, 2021 at 9:36 am #1400696Well, if others would like to join one too, then we’ll need to think of a subject!

I hope others would be interested in a Paint-A-Long. I have some topic ideas of things I would like to learn/improve in.
The glazing is looking decent in some places of my painting, so that’s worth celebrating! I can see the benefit of optical mixing this way. It definitely requires patience.
April 17, 2021 at 10:44 am #1400964All right, here goes…
(Technically I started last night, but whatever)
@ozeanbay yeah definetly patience lol. I can’t imagine how they did this in oil. So slooooooow!
C&C Always welcome.
April 18, 2021 at 11:19 am #1401260Anybody else running into that “this idea is really stupid” phase?
Sigh…
C&C Always welcome.
April 18, 2021 at 1:37 pm #1401284Alright, this thing is as done as it’s getting. Now for the color. Kinda wondering if I need to color it. I suppose that’s a good thing lol.
C&C Always welcome.
April 19, 2021 at 7:29 am #1401452For me, the glazing stage was very quick but that’s probably due to my subject choice and my inherent need to paint quickly!??
In total, from blank board to finish, maybe 3 hours….. of course, the result will no doubt show that!!!?? ….. yours will be masterpieces. ?
Cheers, Maureen

I’m beginning to think these challengers are jinxed for me. Trying to decide whether to leave it as is or risk stripping all the color back down to grayscale for an attempted fix.
I hope you all are doing better than I am:(
C&C Always welcome.
April 20, 2021 at 4:44 am #1401680AES, I’m sure it will be fine!

April 21, 2021 at 12:20 am #1401904I tried the beach scene, 5×8″, impressed with the greyscale version f but not too impressed with my too heavy additions of color
