Thanks, everyone, for the kind comments. I actually searched for any bird or animal pieces by Matisse before I started and didn’t come up with much at all! I found his style to be very much exploratory and fluid — even to the point of going through phases where his work would mimic others’ popular work at the time. In any case, painting in this style was fun — freeing — and I think it would be interesting to paint a series of animals/birds in this style. Like art cards.
