So, I am about to complete a piece which took several months and I found out after the fact that one of the pigments I used may not be as lightfast as I first thought. I heard someone mention a fixative which they use to help with the lightfastness as well as preserving the watercolor. Does anyone have a suggestion for a good one? Do you use something to protect your watercolors?

I have used Dorland Wax but I don’t know the long-term effects.

Thanks! I hadn’t thought about using wax. I’m worried though because the climate I live in gets pretty hot in the summer (North GA, USA). Would the wax melt in 90°+ temps?

The  layer is so thin, I doubt it would be affected.
Check out the articles in the New Watercolor Handbook on using Dorland wax to protect paintings.
