Two ships

This isn’t quite done…I’m going to attempt to add a fog and mist….I’ve never done it and am not sure how or if it will turn out as planned, so I thought I would share this version 😀

I cannot help with suggestions for fog and mist, as I am only learning.

I can only advise you on the way I do it. To stat with. I work from the distance forward. The whole bg. Should be a misty colour with light grey and whiter patches. Your ship or whatever is the feature, should be painted almost the colour of the mist, as you move forward it should start to assume it’s real colour until you are out of the mist.
I wouldn’t try to do it with this one, although if you are not too fussy about keeping it, you could use it as part of the learning curve.

Looks great, Dan. I’m with Jim, the atmosphere is something you’d want to start with from the block-in on up.

I decided to do some experimenting on one of my older paintings. This is the effect I am going for.
If I can get this effect on the ships I will be pleased.

What brush did you use for the rigging? It looks quite good. I have never had much luck working with fine brushes.

I used a brand new # 1 brush as well as a pen. The brush bristles stem less than 1/4″. .It doesn’t hold much paint but it is easy to coltrol

So I ended up just using a cheap white paint on an extremely dry brush…it turned out good enough that I am going to incorporate it in other paintings to improve the technique.
