These haven’t gotten many responses in the Cityscapes forum, which is very, very sleepy these days, so I’m reposting here. The Oils forum folks like these paintings, but sice cityscapes are actually a form of landscape, I’d especially appreciate your feedback!
The first one was completed in December of last year.
Rainy Night on Pike Street
11×14
And the second was completed just this week. It’s from a photo that I took of my recently snow-blanketed neighborhood.
Seattle Snowmaggedon, 2019
8×8
These will both be in an exhibit of my work (the first painting is already there). Thanks for looking!

Thanks, Gary! I’m hoping your second comment has more to do with a tiresome and cold winter where you are, rather than the painting itself!

Many thanks, Lucy!

February 21, 2019 at 3:38 pm #786258These are bot beautifull and well painted.
I love the second one. cloudy winter day makes the colours something special.Mikael
February 21, 2019 at 5:45 pm #786257These are both great Annie! The Pike street is my favorite. The way you painted the windows on the buildings, the cars, and the figures are incredible. The subdued atmospheric perspective of the buildings in the back really lead you all the way into the scene. I also really like the halo effect around the lights. Beautiful job!

February 22, 2019 at 4:09 am #786247Mikael, thanks – when I painted the “Snomageddon” painting, I was really feeling it, since I was snowed in at the time!
Wes, thanks very much for the kind comments and feedback! I’m glad you like the Pike Street painting – it’s a favorite of mine, too.

February 22, 2019 at 5:04 am #786262I like so much that i will only mention a couple of things that jump out as so good.
The light blue sky and its shimmering texture in the city scene works so well. The Winter scene does not just show snow – but it is so cold – every value and hue seems to highlight a sort of miserable cold – the yellow sign probably helps to highlight further the other cold colours. Delighted to see you share these wonderful ‘landscapes’ :thumbsup:February 22, 2019 at 5:42 am #786260Both are very nice. Just enough details to look convincing with great simplification of the scenery.
February 22, 2019 at 11:43 am #786252Hi Annie, these are very good paintings! the very wet pavement and road is so believable, also the lighting in this rainy painting is so good. The snow paintings shows us it is so very cold and is also a very good painting. Hope to see more paintings from you soon!

February 22, 2019 at 4:43 pm #786253I sometimes wonder if landscapes, seascapes, and cityscapes should all be the same forum – they aren’t that different, really.
I like these! Great “wet” feeling in the first one, and I like the lights and details. The second is very peaceful and the snow and color choices give it a realistic, cold feeling.

Still much to paint and much to learn!
My blog: https://autumnglade.blogspot.com/February 22, 2019 at 4:53 pm #786249Matthew, thanks for the comments and I’m glad you like my paintings!
I was one of those who pushed for the creation of a Cityscapes forum. They really are a form of landscape painting, but there are unique issues in creating cityscapes – perspective, what brushes to use, how to describe buildings without too much detail, discussions of the work of favorite cityscape painters, etc. – that don’t quite fit as well in the Landscapes foruml. The forum started out well, but it seems there are very few who post there regularly anymore – and even I don’t. It may just be that for success, it would have required a critical mass of users – particularly those who would offer feedback on others’ work – that just isn’t there.

February 22, 2019 at 11:29 pm #786256Great job on the 1st. The wet conditions are well portrayed & I love those touches of pure color which stand out nicely among surrounding greys.
The 2nd is well composed also & I love the variation in edges & values throughout.
Particularly like your rendering of tree foliage in the upper section which blends into the sky & directs attention to action below – Nicely Done !Michael.
