Tractor Three X

Another tractor (old one as usual).

I’ve been looking at the work of Charlie Hunter…..love it. He paints in monochrome with a wee bit of color added to a rich brown wipe-out foundation in Water Miscible oils.

I thought I would give it a try and it is a fun technique. I used a q-tip, rag, and color shaper for wipe-out areas and used way more color than Hunter.
some graphite, water mix oils, and regular oils.

This is so beautiful, Derek, and this technique worked so well! Of course your drawing skills had a lot to do with it. Thanks for showing the stages so we can see how you gradually added color. Was the foundation layer totally dry before you worked on top of it?

It’s great that you have shown your WIP and explained your techniques. The result is fantastic. I love the tractor but, oddly, my eyes are drawn to the grasses!

Wow…amazing detail on that tractor contrasts with the more loose painterly looking grasses and foliage. Love it!

A terrific result Derek – Interesting how you establish the deep red early.

A block-in method used by Richard Schmid I believe who also paints reds early during the block-in process – Well Done Derek !
