Hi all,
I hope I’m not too much of an oddity around here. This community seems such a wonderful place that I still fit in.
I’m a 37-year old illustrator working mostly with liquid watercolours (at the moment) and suffering from (or enjoying) bouts of severe Tolkien obsession.
I’m in the middle of one right now, and would love to share some of the latest bunch.
Dr Martin’s liquid watercolours on Canson student’s paper.
Dr Martin’s liquid watercolours on Canson Montval.
Schmincke Horadam watercolours on Hahnemühle Torchon.
Thanks for looking!

May 7, 2012 at 4:31 pm #1162198I think your work is amazing! We all have our own unique way that we express ourselves and that is what makes the world such a beautiful place! How boring would it be if we were all the same. I hope to see more of your work!

Welcome to the forum. We have another fantasy illustrator here Jana Souflova (Maffet) I think you will like her work.
I visited Hobbiton, the set for Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit in New Zealand last month.

We must leave our mark on this worldMay 7, 2012 at 4:34 pm #1162192You have done a wonderful job on these. I have worked with Dr. Martin’s liquid watercolors and I know they are extraordinary to work with but also a little unforgiving. You would never know that with these paintings–amazing, and welcome to this forum if you have not been here before.

May 7, 2012 at 8:26 pm #1162190Wonderful! I like No. 3 the best, the one done with Schmincke Horadam, a greater depth and variety of tone in the colors….so very very nice! But all superb! Welcome to WetCanvas! :grouphug:

WATERCOLOR HANDBOOKMay 8, 2012 at 1:35 am #1162201wonderful work!
when my boys were little, The lord of the Rings was standard bedtime reading… we went through them all several times over (and now my oldest is getting his doctorate in literature- I credit Tolkien and Asimov, C.S Lewis and L’Engle directly)

May 8, 2012 at 3:52 am #1162208Wow, thanks so much for the warm welcome! I’m looking forward to hanging around here. Especially the media exchange subforum sounds great. I don’t know that many people working mostly or even exclusively in watercolours, and I’ve already found such a wealth of information there. I’m 100% self-taught, by the way, so my approach may be a bit unconventional – definitely less “artistic” than “illustratory”.
Katherine: Oh sorry, I forgot the sizes. All of the ones above are A3 size.
I’ve already read the Hobbit to my son as well ^__^ My mother read me the Lord of the Rings (paraphrasing passages and shortening bits) when I was eight, so I suppose I can get him started on that sometime next year.

May 8, 2012 at 9:34 am #1162207excellent work, it was surprising to read that you are actually not a professional illustrator, as your work suggests exactly that,
Greetings from Northern Germany and – being an EFL-Teacher myself – I have to say: happy teaching
