This latest oil painting on 18 x24 studio canvas was inspired in part by the surroundings of Marina Del Rey California.
Since I’ve been busy preparing for my upcoming art exhibit, painting and organizing, I’ve allowed my postings to fall by the wayside.

Thank you all from the group!

Nice dramatic skies. I like the purple mixed into the blue.

                    Lots of atmosphere in this.

Ah Lovely… but the part that distracts me is looking for the depft of perspective the slight difference that would be between the horizon and the sky..?

I agree, there needs to be a more defining horizon line.

I think the atmosphere and color is lovely in this. Since the scene describes the moment when the sky lights up just before darkness falls, I’m not certain the horizon line needs more definition, as it may describe the coming darkness better without it.

Still, there’s probably a case that can be made for both approaches.

Thank you all for your complements and insight!

Annie A: Thank you for such a clear description and interpretation of my painting, mentioning that brief moment in time as the sun sets.

I live on the Gulf of Mexico and I’m with Annie on this one, there are golden moments when sea and sky are nearly indistinguishable: this is one. Is there a hump to the horizon line on the left? The light on the water, the orange clouds…such peace in such ‘violent’ orange and purple! I really love this one.
