Greetings and salutations! I’m Teddy. I’m 37 and have just started drawing seriously for the first time since around 11 or 12. Working my way through Drawing On The Right Side Of The Brain and having fun. I’m mostly interested in sketching, pen and ink, and watercolor. Other interests include film photography (been shooting most of my life), music and movies.

I have one question I’ll ask now instead of creating or hijacking a thread elsewhere. I was browsing Drawing And Sketching by Stan Smith and he talks about fixative spray. I get that, but he says something I can’t find any info on anywhere online. He says you can fix a drawing from the front or back of the paper. Anyone else familiar with fixing art from the rear?

Welcome to the forum Teddy, I like pen and wash too.

I have never heard of a fixative which works from the back of the paper.

Nice to meet you, Doug. It sort of blew my mind when I read it. I’ll try to remember to take a photo of the passage in the book tonight. I would imagine you have to saturate the hell out of the paper for this to work. Maybe someday I’ll experiment with it.

I did a search but found no fixative for the back of the paper but there is a comprehensive list on Jackson’s site.

I think you would get more help in the Oil Pastels forum.
