HMHS Letitia enters harbour during WW2 later renamed Captain Cook. I did a previous painting of her as such
        Another of my own favourites

Jim, did all the tugs smoke that badly?

That isn’t bad, besides depends on the the coal, the age of the equipment and the skill of the stokers. This is war time so it is probably not ‘Best Welsh Steam Coal’ and too busy for frequent boiler cleans. You see if I had painted it with a whisp or two some people would be on me like a ton of ‘nutty slack’.

Thanks Dave. If I’m painting something with houses in it, if there are no people , I always try to put in smoke (if, of the period) and /or washing on the line, a bike against the wall or something to show a sign of ‘life’. There are so many excellent paintings of houses/villages etc.on WC Spoiled ( in my opinion) because there is not a sign of any living thing. However ‘Whatever floats your boat’
Just thought, I wonder if it to do with me coming from Edinburgh, known up here as ‘Auld Reekie’. (Old Smokie)
