Still stuck up north. Waiting for a service man to come in re-install our new stove. He was supposed to be here yesterday, and after waiting all day yesterday, he never showed up,
it is pouring rain outside which means I will be stuck inside this trailer for another 24 hours. The service man is scheduled to come today between 3 and 6 PM. I hope it happens because I want to go home.
Read all your comments from yesterday’s daily. We got some thinking to do, and choices to make. Personally, I don’t see Flickr as being a good replacement for WC. The structure is totally different. I belong to at least 25 groups, where I just participate in challenges and post pictures. Basically, you get brief comments or “likes” after you post your photos. There is no community feel to it like here.
when I get back I hope to look at some of the other blogs that were suggested.
can’t wait to go home now.lorell

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on Flickr. Your impressions of the other candidates would be very helpful too.
Nice photo: really sets a mood, nice light, pleasing colors.
Hi to any who follow.
Below is another of Ron’s roses. It’s a variety that I rarely photograph because it is so dark (about 25-35% darker than the photo shows) that it doesn’t photograph well – at least not for me. I left the color saturation a bit more intense than it was in real life, just to give it some POP.

That waiting time for a service tech seem to be universal. Wouldn’t it be nice if they called to tell you they can’t make it? With the rainy weather I am sure you are ready to go home!
Agree, with your comments on a replacement.Dave, that rose is gorgeous. A dozen of those will go a long ways with any special person in your life!
Wonderful photos yesterday!!!
Here is a photo from Legion Lake in the Black Hills which sort off mimics Lorell’s.
Caught the biggest rainbow trout of my life out of that lake, about a 3 pounder. My memory is fuzzy on it as it was back in 2003 but I think I released it.

That sure looks like “end of summer” color around the Lake.
I love the shadows this time of year too.
Yeah, I looked around FlickR on some of the groups.
Not like here.
I hope your serviceman shows up as scheduled. Gonna be a slow morning, huh?Hi Dave, that is a very sharp rose photo!
You did great with the red. Always a challenge to be able to have the saturation and detail in the petals.Hi Rich!
It looks like lakes are popular this morning!
The rippled reflections are great. Looks like fall color too.
Black Hills…would love to see more of your photos from there!I took this a few weeks ago from the top of the dam. (Lake Hartwell)
Its 204 feet above the Savannah River bed.
The Spillway, turbines and powerhouse are ahead along the top of dam path.
You just can’t see it because of the curve.
The lake has 55,900 acres of water and 962 miles of shoreline.
23,563 acres of public land surrounds the lake.
Yes, I have been here many times and posted photos.
But this is recent and the sky looks cool!Clickable

Like last night’s sunset. Wish I went out of town.
I chose it as it is like Dave’s rose.

I enjoyed all the lake photos. Water is such a relaxing element, isn’t it? Regardless if you’re looking at it, swimming in it, or taking a shower in it, it is just soothing, just like your pictures.
Dave, The rose is a beautiful shade of red, and I love the color of the leaves in the background.
I apologize for not being able to dig more into alternate forums at the moment, I will be home by this weekend. And we shouldn’t feel rushed. Looks like we have several months to decide. Nothing can replace what we HAD. The new WC sure fell short. But I’m sure it won’t take us that long to figure out something.

That is some beautiful sky drama! Intense colors and I do like the rooftops
and power lines. It shows there can be Glory anywhere we look!
Instead say, “glad I had my camera”!
Nice photo and it looks like a cute community too!Lorell, we know you are busy these last few days, no need to apologize.
There is only so many forums and we are all scouting them out.
It’s just a matter of finding/visiting and trying to integrate into a new community.
Good luck with the new stove!Fujifilm X100F, XT20 + Nikon Camera Bodies & Lenses

Cloud formations pretty neat too!
Grant, a real ‘Canadian Sunset”, remember that song?
Lorell, nothing much good on daytime TV unless you like game shows and soap operas!
Don’t worry, plenty of time.
We have been having cool mornings and normal temp days. Nice, but I know what’s coming!

Website http://rich-stedman.pixels.comSeptember 23, 2021 at 12:46 pm #1437183AnonymousThanks Rich. Credit for the beauty of the rose goes to Ron and Mother Nature. Excellent photo of the lake.
Thanks damar. Yes, reds can be tricky and PSE in particular has problems with them, oversaturating to the point of being garish and hiding detail. I tried to strike a balance between keeping the reds very vibrant while preserving as much detail as possible. Your shot of Lake Hartwell is top-notch by any standard.
Simply gorgeous, Grant. I usually darken the foreground of similar shots I take, but your decision to let the foreground details show works perfectly in this image.
Thanks Lorell. Yes, I paid attention to the color of the leaves, not wanting them to distract. No need to apologize for being stuck in the rain and wind. Your wise thoughts and insights are worth waiting for.
Daytime TV is pretty lame; if I watch any it’s either PBS or some of the series (NCIS New Orleans, Blue Bloods, etc.) aired by Ion.
September 23, 2021 at 1:42 pm #1437188Good afternoon all. I’ve popped in and out thru the day but haven’t taken the time to post yet.
Sorry about you being “stuck” in the trailer Lorell. Nothing worse than waiting on a service call that doesn’t arrive. So frustrating. Good lake photo though. As is your, Patty, of lake Hartwell.
Killer sky, Grant. Those don’t come along often enough, do they?
Nice work on the red rose Dave. I have problems trying to photograph red flowers. Hard to get it right, but you succeeded on this shot.
Well, we (me) are second guessing our scheduled trip to the west coast. The thought of a crowded airport and spending 5 hours on a plane coming and going has about changed my mind. I know we would have a great time once we got there, but we have been so careful about “social distancing” that it just goes against everything we have tried to do for the past year and a half. I think if the Delta variant had not come along we would feel better about a trip. I haven’t cancelled yet but have been looking at alternatives. Plus the surgery for our son hasn’t been scheduled so we need to wait for that, even though the doc said it would be after the time frame for the trip. So…. we wait. I was looking south, but DW said she was interested in the mountains, so now I’m looking at the Asheville, NC area.

"A moment in time
Immortalized forever
With silver and light"September 23, 2021 at 2:04 pm #1437190AnonymousThanks Don. It took a fair bit of processing to get to the final rose image. Maybe a thread called something like “Before and After” showing how much our final images differ from the SOOTC ones would be interesting.
Regarding your travel concerns, if I were in the same situation I think I too would be having second thoughts. (Lots more I could say on the subject of different regional Covid responses, but if I did I’d probably stray into voicing opinions that might be considered political. Best to keep my mouth shut for once.)
September 23, 2021 at 2:24 pm #1437193Mostly nothing good on TV, period.
September 23, 2021 at 2:40 pm #1437194Yes, reds can be tricky and PSE in particular has problems with them, oversaturating to the point of being garish and hiding detail.
Dave are you processing RAW files through the Adobe RAW program in PSE?
If so, you should be able to choose your cameras color space rather than Adobes.
(even based on your model camera)
Ignore all this if you process JPGs.In the Raw processor you will see
Profile: Adobe Color >click on the 4 squares just to the right.
Once that opens scroll down and click on
Camera Matching..it will be a Nikon camera with a Nikon standard color space. It may not be your exact model. Its ok…click on a few. Adobe will matchNikons color settings. The default is Adobe COLOR being applied/replacing to your Nikon color.
Sometimes Adobe Color looks fine, but I prefer to work in my cameras specific color.
I am not able to get screen captures because I cannot shrink the raw editing screen to access my screen capture tool. (my keyboard doesn’t have print screen either)
Ignore if you already covered this ground.
I use PSE with both Fuji and Nikon cameras an do not have a problem with Elements weirding out my colors. edited to add: because I can use my cameras specific color setting in Elements RAW processor.Hi Don,

Thanks for this info, damar.
Yes, I shoot in RAW and do my initial processing in PSE’s RAW editor, then finish up in PSE itself. I’m not seeing all the exact things you mentioned in my version (PSE21, I believe) but I’m sure they are there somewhere – it’ll just take a little digging to find them.
