I am preparing for my trip to Scottsdale AZ in April and have been comparing different travel costs (20 hour drive vs fly) and I am shocked at some prices I have come up with:

Shipping my painting: Box 55″x44″x5″ = UPS was the cheapest at $300 and I do have a UPS account.
I just purchased this art box and had it shipped to me for less than the shipping quote above! Shipping was $125. I’m going to try and figure out why the difference.

        Freight quotes are $500-$1000

Anybody have other thoughts on shipping something this large?

Car Rental for 4 days through Costco: $400..$100/day?

Maybe renting a pair of electric bikes… B-)

As awful as it will be to drive 20 hours it’s appearing to be a LOT cheaper than flying since I can haul the painting with me in the truck.. :mail:

Yeah I think companies negotiate discount deals which a one off shipper will never get.

Getting a Uhaul has always been the cheapest option, unless it’s overseas then you are screwed. You don’t have to worry about it being mysteriously lost and then have it show up at their auction either.

Oh yeah, congrats on the painting!

Booked a motel yesterday at the 12 hour point in the drive of day one and the painting will be riding along.

                Side note:
The strangest part is that when I purchased this AirFloat shipping box it was shipped from Mississippi but the FedEx Tracking number is in German. The FedEx tracking link and all is really strange so I’m guessing that somehow their shipping contract is through FedEx out of Germany even tho the company is in the US.

Congratulations on getting accepted to the show!

Difference on shipping costs: one was an empty box, the other quote was for the painting and box (and insurance, perhaps).

Since you have decided to drive out, I would suggest taking the painting in to your motel room with you, rather than leaving in your vehicle. Safer from theft and temperature differences.
