Self Portraits join in the fun!

This is my first self-portrait in 18 years…. The previous one I’ve found back between my old school-stuff. I’ve sketched this portrait in charcoal from my image in the mirror. It took between 15 and 20 minutes..
I realy like self-portraits. They have a special atmosphere about them. I am planning to make more portraits with different techniques…

.. another self-portrait from me in oil pastels (~30 minute sketch) (cross-post from OP weekly sketching-thread). I like doing them as excercise but it is still very difficult for me..
I realy admire all of your beautifull work. I would like to work in more detail instead of quick sketches but I only have a few chuncks of 30 minutes spare time each week…(4 kids….)

This is a different version, Amedee- good to see some colour.
Have you tried practicing from “Loomis” studies of the head- its a free download from the net. They are such good learning activities and give good structure examples to practice from.

Thanks for the advice bethany. I probably should spend more time on sketching the basic shapes and then refining the details…. I usually try to do everything at once due to time pressure… I’ll keep posting ‘myself’ in my following tries….

Hey there

There are some fantastic self portraits here so thought I’d join in. I’ve done a couple recently as studies for a more concentrated oil painting I’ll try to start shortly. Here is a charcoal I did a couple of weeks ago. Not sure if I will paint this version though… A few obvious drawing issues to iron out, but getting there I think.
