I paint in oils on smooth hardboard or hardwood panels. I paint in very thin, smooth layers so my paintings are good candidates for scanning into digital format. I have a photographer I use for larger paintings, but lately I’ve been doing mostly 8×10 panels. I have a shop that I go to for scanning, but I’m thinking it would make much more sense to scan the paintings at home and save the money ($9/scan).
I have a printer that (I believe) doubles as a scanner. I’m going to try it out to see how it looks, but I imagine it probably will not be that fantastic. I want to be able to have high quality prints made from these scans. Can anyone recommend a good scanner that will do the job without breaking the bank? I’d happily spend a few hundred bucks – that would pay for itself very quickly.
Suggestions?

August 26, 2021 at 7:34 am #1430518I have a Canon CanoScan 9000F Mark II scanner that I am very pleased with but holy cow has the price on these things gone up! I just did a price check on Amazon and they are selling for over $900 now! That’s not what I paid for mine some years ago. Yikes! I’d better take really good care of it. I certainly wouldn’t want to have to replace it at THAT price. When I bought it the cost was under $300.00.
The scans are beautiful, color-accurate and finely detailed. This scanner’s images are a good pairing with my Caonon Pixma iX 6520 ink jet printer (sadly, that model is no longer available).

May 17, 2022 at 2:12 am #1470614Thanks for the information. Not so long ago I was searching for good financial software development companies. And I found one that can help with the fintech app https://www.intellectsoft.net/solutions/financial-software-development-services. So this is a process where applications can be integrated with several other banking systems and synchronize with cross-platform services.
February 21, 2023 at 3:37 am #1503151Don’t wish to insult your intellignce, but if your printer is of a reasonble quality, it should produce acceptable results if used correctly. And if you have access to some decent photo-editing software—it woud be rare to find a scan that required absolutely no editing. My own printer/scanner is very low-end but it still can produce a very reasonable scan providing I use it correctly.
My brother-in-law spent almost endless hours scanning old family photographs on his printer/scanner, but he never bothered to learn the features of it and so scanned everything at lo-res on the ‘auto’ setting.
When I offered to digitally retouch a particularly valuable, but damaged photograph for him, he was delighted. Unfortunately I could do very little with it because the resolution was so low. This was how I discovered that he had scanned probably hundreds of photos by just clicking ‘auto’.
PLEASE how do I make these dreadful yellow things go away?
