RSS:
If you need to check on new threads in a forum you could subscribe to the RSS feed in Feedly or similar. The RSS code take the form

    https://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/external.php?type=rss2&forumids=x

where x is the forum number at the end of the forum url. The Watercolor Gallery for example would be

Without any view of what is happening on the forums, and no RSS it’s really difficult to navigate.

RSS are not that popular any more. A few suggestions that could be low hanging fruits to get the usage to grow:

        – Add the Recent replies and Recent topics widgets on the “Home”. These are part of the very basic explained in the intro to bbpress: https://www.wpexplorer.com/bbpress-guide/

        – Add the column “Last post” in forum lists. Can be seen on https://wbcomdesigns.com/bbpress-vs-buddypress/, looks very standard.

        – Get the “Subscribe” on forums to work. See https://codex.bbpress.org/features/subscriptions/. There is a subscribe on each forum, but it is buggy.

e.g on forum Site announcements, you get the following:
https://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/forum/the-town-center/site-announcements-read-only/?action=bbp_subscribe&object_id=38&object_type=post&_wpnonce=f4e60cff9a
Cannot be that object_type=post is correct (it is a forum).
