Hello everyone! Got a nice, roaring fire going to kick off our March Campfire. What’s new with all of you? I hope you’ve all been staying creative and hanging in there. I’ve been in a bit of a creative rut lately, but have been spending some time working on a my second-largest wire sculpture to date. I’ve had the pieces in mind for a long time to create a life-sized cat sculpture in a sort of Steampunk style. It’s almost to the point of adding all the interesting embellishments. That’s always the most enjoyable part!
What’s new with all of you?

March 1, 2021 at 1:45 am #1388183I look forward to seeing your cat Jenna.
A concerning event yesterday, an ambulance came twice to our neighbours across the road. Both he and his wife caught Covid and have been isolating. Although Janet recovered and is able to go out now David her husband had breathing difficulties. I hope he is going to be OK.

We must leave our mark on this worldMarch 1, 2021 at 9:57 am #1388341Hello Doug! It’s so nice to have you join us at the Campfire! Thank you for your interest in my cat sculpture. I’ve just had my coffee, so now it’s time to get to work on it again. I’m so sorry to hear about your neighbors. It can really hit hard on certain people. I will keep David in prayer and hope we will recover. My mom’s cousin was gravely ill with Covid several months ago and barely survived. He is slowly but surely returning to normal, but it was very intense. I sure hope your neighbors – and you too – hang in there. Take care.

March 9, 2021 at 10:08 am #1390682Hi everyone, Doug and Jenna, sorry about the sick friends/relatives. We have all been fortunate and Gene has had both vaccinations and I have had one. We have done well and all our family, too.
I haven’t been doing much art as normal. This week I lost an old bridge and had to have that replaced with some sinus infection to go with it, but I am fine now and ready to plunder on. Lost a few days…..
Hope all are well, looking forward to seeing your cat sculpture, Jenna.
Hugs all around….

My website https://jocastilloart.comMarch 11, 2021 at 9:52 am #1391129Good morning to the Campfire! We have seen a couple of days up around 60 degrees, and that feels marvelous! Our Killdeer, Red-Winged Blackbirds and Sandhill Cranes seem to be returning, and they can’t be completely wrong about an early spring, can they? All but a bit of dirty, piled-up snow has melted away, and there’s actually some hint of fresh growth in sunny areas. So grateful for a mild, drier spring – at least so far that’s what we’ve been blessed with!
Hello Jo. It sounds like you’ve been feeling crummy with your bridge repair and your sinus infection. I am glad you’re feeling better. I’m hoping to finish up the cat in one or two more sittings. It’s been a fun project, but a big one!
Have a great weekend, my friends.

March 13, 2021 at 8:57 am #1391664Hi everyone, been watching UT baseball on TV for home games and listening to away games on internet. Not the same! Today we are celebrating a birthday, SIL, so crawfish boil and dinosaur tour in the car. Not sure how that will be. Maybe I can sketch. It is a slow moving tour.
Jenna, your spring sounds lovely to see. Here, the grass stayed green under the snow so we don’t have much coming up yet. Some of the trees are budding but we have mostly pines so aren’t seeing much difference yet. Look forward to your photos. Our niece in Tennessee sent some buttercup photos. Not big enough to put here. Our daughter in Austin has a redbud tree and a plum blooming already.
Hope you have a fantastic weekend. HeARTful.

My website https://jocastilloart.comMarch 19, 2021 at 7:33 pm #1393425Hello everyone! Hoping you’re all doing well. I’ve got some chocolate chip cookies and coffee to share with the campfire tonight.
Hi Jo. Happy (late) birthday to your son-in-law! A crawfish boil and dinosaur tour…that does sound interesting! I hope you had fun with it. We’ve cooled off a bit and it’s looking like the springtime rain is moving in next week. Got to have that too. I invested in a new camera recently, and today was able to photograph a couple of Canadian geese at our pond (seems we see a pair every year, and I wonder if they’re the same “couple” every year?) and also a pine squirrel. Unfortunately, the settings are a bit different, so they’re by no means my greatest photos to date, but I’m learning.
Hope you’re all doing well! We’d love to hear what’s new with all of you. My mom and I spent a lot of time (and energy!) this week clearing out the attic. It’s been collecting stuff for over 30 years, and held some of my grandparents’ things before that, so it was stuffed to the point of no walking space anywhere. And to make it worse, we had our roof re-shingled quite awhile back, and didn’t put down any coverings, so a great deal of it – probably well over half – was completely ruined by shingle grit, gunk, and black, oozing, nasty stuff. Just a disaster. Access to the attic is through my bedroom closet, up a “stairway” that’s more like a ladder. So between emptying my closet first and then hauling down probably at least 10 huge trash bags, plus 15 – 20 cardboard boxes full of junk, it has been a feat! After all this, we’re still only around half done. Whew, what a task!
Ok, I’ve rambled on enough. Have a sweet rest of your weekend, everyone! Happy creating!

March 20, 2021 at 1:25 am #1393470That’s quite a task you have embarked on Jenna, I bet you are feeling the physical effects today. I spent the last couple of days cutting up a huge pile of ivy and brambles that then gardener left behind and filling garden trugs that I could carry them taking them to the waste recycling centre. All in all there must have been 10-12 trips. Luckily it is only a mile away. Writing that has reminded me that I have a loft with 53 years of things and a garage to clear out

We must leave our mark on this worldMarch 20, 2021 at 6:01 am #1393535Jenna, what a chore. Wow! Good thing we don’t have a big attic. We just have Christmas stuff up there. And Larry’s golf clubs. He’s playing disc golf now. Thanks for taking time for the cookies and coffee. I’ll add a breakfast burrito. Here in Texas they call them breakfast tacos.
Doug, you are working, too. Take care.
It is our Loblolly Pine pollen time. The best weather ever and the fine yellow green powder from the budding pine cones covers everything and seeps in through the screens covering everything in powder. Luckily it doesn’t seem to cause allergies, just hard to vacuum and wash off. It does leave a stain if wet. So the porch rug has been rolled up and all furniture covered with a tarp for about a month. Doors and windows closed. Sigh….
Sounds like painting time. Hope so.

My website https://jocastilloart.comMarch 29, 2021 at 9:24 am #1396004Hello to the Campfire!
I hope you’re all doing well. I’ve been a bit scarce lately. Still picking away at the attic when there’s time, and also dealing with tax stuff, and then putting some long hours into my studio in the anticipation of (so far, fingers crossed) three summer art shows. Sure hope it works out! Are any of you planning on shows this summer? There’s always that warning about the potential need to cancel plans, but so far, three are going forward that I’ve entered. One of them I’ve applied to but don’t know yet if I’m accepted. Hopefully, because it looks like a fun one!
Hi Doug. It has been such a big, messy job, but it sure is satisfying! It sounds like you’ve been doing a lot of cleaning up around home as well. It’s amazing how much time it takes to keep up on all those ends of keeping a home in good shape, isn’t it? I hope you’re doing well!
Hi Jo. I sure could go for a breakfast taco! Yum! I’m actually going low-carb lately, so that probably makes for a great breakfast. It’s been a big job with the attic, but it’s also fun to see what we’ve forgotten about up there. A lot of damaged stuff because of all the shingle grit, unfortunately, but a fair amount in ok condition. It is funny how dated so much of it has become. Curtains and decor from the ’80s and ’90s don’t look as cool as I remember them to look. I’m glad you don’t suffer from allergies with the Loblolly Pine pollen. On a side note, I’ve never heard of Loblolly Pine, and have to say it’s a lovely, musical name!
Hello to all the rest. It’s almost April, and we’re so enjoying the bits of greenery sprouting up here and there. It’s been a long winter (which is funny, because our spring has come quite early), so it’s good to have this season upon us. Well, back to work in my studio. Have a great day, everyone!

April 1, 2021 at 7:50 am #1396823Jenna, I don’t envy you the work of cleaning the attic. On the other hand I can see that you can enjoy the discovery part! See you at the new campfire.
