Beautiful painting Jo, I love the intense sunlight and the moody sky.
Jenna your scratchboard artwork is very beautiful.

Looks like a big fire west of Ruidoso, so glad we are not there and in our own thunderstorm right now. We really need the rain so badly Les will have his left eye cataract removed in the morning so today was the prep pre-op visit. Hope all goes well after he takes a Valium they give the patients. Second one will be done around 3rd week in May.
Hope all the rest of you are doing okay bye…

April 28, 2021 at 7:12 am #1403873Kay, this was the cryptogram at the end of my post:
Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience. – Unknown
Wishing the best for Les today. My cataracts were removed years ago and I have had 20×20 vision and no problems since then. Times have really changed for the procedure. My folks had to lie on their backs for 10 days after and wear very thick glasses, no implants, so no peripheral vision after. I had to have a shot in my eye for my first one back in the early 90s. Then they took stitch(es) out next day. Drops only for the second one. Amazing stuff!!
We had a fire near here the other day, too. Burned about 250 acres, someone cooking and wind came up. Luckily no homes burned or injuries. They say we are in for a hot dry summer. Hope we all stay safe. Don’t know if we will get to NM or not. I hope so for a few weeks anyway. We missed that last year. First time we were ever here for the hot summer. I miss my Frito Pie in Socorro.
Hi to all the rest!!

My website https://jocastilloart.comApril 28, 2021 at 8:40 am #1403902Yay, we had about 1.25″-1.5″ rain in the gauge this morning so that was most welcome We are off in about an hour to get the surgery done. I got out of the O.R. around 2002 at which time they were still using sutures to the eye and people had to wear the metal shield awhile. Lots has changed thanks to technology so all is good now.
Our local art club area-wide show opens up for entries tomorrow morning and Friday for a month long event. Wish us luck!
No updates on the fire other than they had some rain and snow happen yesterday and evacuees were allowed to return home.
Love Frito pie, Jo, and make it often. Not so nutritious, though but still love eating it with chopped onions and shredded cheese.

April 28, 2021 at 10:23 am #1403934Kay,
I like the red bird, and congrats on the sales!
Jenna,
You’re absolutely right! Gotta make the best out of life, I guess that’s why I drink a lot of lemon aide.. LOL
Throwing a log on the fire??? I hope that’s metaphorically and it’s not still cold up north. 66* here last night, only used 1 sheet and I was still too hot.On a different subject, my daughter had labs at school in Springfield MO last week, so we all went down. My wife and I got to goof off and went to Fantastic Caverns and road the tram through the cave. Only 4 caves in the world have trams to ride on instead of walking through the cave. Also went on a walk through the Japanese Garden. It wasn’t in bloom yet, but was still very pretty. The annual Pella, IA Tulip festival is coming up the second weekend in May. If ya like tulips, it’s a must see.

A Painter's QuestApril 29, 2021 at 8:37 pm #1404310Hello around the Campfire! It’s a lovely night, and I’m happy to see a few hanging around here again.
Hi Jo. Thank you, friend. It’s always so great to keep in touch with all the lovely people here. I love your recent painting from the Challenge thread. It’s wonderful! I hope you see sales through the online shows! I love your quote about arguing with an idiot. So true! I’m so glad no one was hurt in that fire. And what, exactly, goes into a Frito Pie? I’ve never heard of it!
Hi Caroline. It’s so great to see you join us here once again! Thank you very much for your wonderful comments. I hope you are well.
Hi Kay. I hope Les’ eye surgery went well. I’ve heard that cataract surgery is one of the best rediscoveries of beauty and color and clarity in your eyesight. I hope it’s a good thing for Les! Very happy to hear you’ve gotten some needed rain! We’re fairly dry here, too, which is surprising, because it’s been overcast and drizzly for days, but never amounts to much. You need the rain more than we do, so I’m glad you’ve gotten a good soak!
Hi Donald. I did mean a literal log on the fire here – down in the 40s and 30s over night here yet. We had a marvelous, warm March, and a cool, overcast April. It’s a slow-starting spring after all, but without the snow. Therefore, I don’t dare complain! It sounds like you and your wife sure saw some beautiful scenery! Must have been a lot of fun. Sure is good to get out and about a little!
Just got accepted into a new art show this summer – hoping the real shows (non-virtual) can take place. I’ve been gearing up for three art shows, so if they get cancelled, I’m going to be pretty bummed. Been working on sculptures and drawings overtime. Been such a good feeling to have a goal and a purpose again though. I’ve missed art show preparations, as I’m sure you all have too! Hope you’re all staying creative. Enjoy the weekend!

April 30, 2021 at 6:43 am #1404395For frito pie I use homemade chili con carne, no beans. Use Frito Lay Fritos, chopped white onion, shredded cheddar cheese. Layer these in a bowl and serve. Easy!
I attended Dry Point Intaglio print class last nite for 2 hours. Fun, creative, and really cool way to make small works you can color with watercolor. Ghost prints are pulled thru a Sizzix machine as well. I did two cats and two owls. Use own sketches or any photo. We got to keep all supplies. I’ll post them here later.
It’s time to get ready for the PBS Permian Basin crew coming to do a shoot at studio that will air on or around Memorial Day. Wish me luck.
Lots of rain yesterday with local flooding

April 30, 2021 at 8:46 am #1404425Good morning ’round the Campfire! I’ve got eggs, but am using them for egg salad for lunch, so just plain old cold cereal for breakfast. My dad and uncle are planning to plant oats today, so it feels like spring is truly here. Highs in the 80s tomorrow, hooray!
Hi Kay. Hmm…interesting with the Frito Pie. If I was more a fan of onions, I’d be all over it. Oh, I am so excited for you with your PBS feature! How exciting! You’re going to do great! Will you be able to provide a link so we can see it when it airs? I’d love to see it if that’s possible!
Happy Friday, everyone!
