Resizing Tutorial in Photoshop & Paint

One of the wonders of the programs we use for manipulation or post processing, is the ability to have things we do repeatedly, recorded so we can repeat them without having to go through every single item one by one. This improves workflow and reduces the chances of us forgetting some of the processes.(very easily done when you are in a hurry)

Here follows the steps for creating a repeatable Action in Photoshop. (I use 7 at this stage)

1. Open up the image you wish to resize, do all the adjustments that you want to do; as resizing and sharpening for posting is the last thing you will do before saving for posting on WC (or any other Forum).

2. Make sure the Action Pallette is visible to you.

3. Select Create a New Set. (this will then keep the WC resizing actions in a set by themselves). You could include them in another set if you wish.

4. Name the set (you need to be able to remember what it was for)

5. Select create New Action, if you are going to add to an existing set this is where you would start.

6. Name your Action (give it a meaningful name) then click Record.

7. It is best to go through the process of an Action before you record it, (a dress rehearsal) this saves the possibility of error.
Select Image > IMage Size

8. Set your IMage Size criteria.

Resizing order.
(1). Make sure that constrain proportions and Resample Image are both checked.
(2). Resampling is set to Bicubic
(3). Make sure resolution is set to 72
(4). change the width to 500px
(5). Click OK

You could finish recording now but as part of the resizing action I like to run the Unsharp Mask as it is repeateable every time. The settings I have said here are the ones I use, different people have different preferences. I like a little Unsharp Mask, but not much.

9. Select Unsharp Mask

10. Set your USM criteria, click OK

11. Stop recording

12.The finished Action looks like this when expanded. Select the Action you wish to play (1)
Then click the play button (2)

13.Repeat the process to create an Action that is 600px high for WC (I prefer 500px but that is personal), you will include this in the same set. Now that you have created it, you do not want to lose it. All you have to do then is save it.
Highlight the set, click the flyout arrow and select Save Actions.

You can also set options for playback like shortcuts in that menu.

14. The image after the Action has been run.

RESIZING IN PAINT:

Hit the keyboard button PrtScn once you have chosen your image to share.

Go to your computer controls and open the Paint Program.

Click on the Paste clipboard icon to save your image.

You will note multiple selections for you including crop and resize just to the right of the Paste board.
The white space in the example above is where your photo to share will be displayed once you click on the PASTE image

Once you have cropped and resized the image simply click on the upper left drop down menu so you can save (save as) the finished image. Give it a file title and be sure to save it as a JPEG file.
