Sounds grim, Michelle. Take care. I have found that steam helps me, but only very temporarily. Of course I only ever tried steaming with the basin or bowl firmly on a table in front of me. Never on my lap because I am so clumsy and apt to spill the hot water and get an injury.
Dinner was a great success last night, even of my cheesecake was very flat and more like a cheese “pancake”. Still tasted good. Our friends seemed to have a good time and it was a real chance to catch up.
Hope you pass your blood tests, Maureen.

January 8, 2024 at 12:39 pm #1537447I’d eat a flat cheesecake, I love the stuff lol. The whole dinner sounded delicious, glad you had a nice time.
I’ve been flaring with the Rheumatism for weeks now, I took a shot that should help but my brain is all fogged up.
We’re expecting a lot of snow , they said up to a foot and high winds to boot. Did a slow walk around the grocery store today, it was packed. Was nice to get out and about though.
Moved my chair and now Tallie can see up and down the street so she’s taken it over. She cracks me up, she looks almost human being so nosy and using her stuffed animal as a pillow. The neighbor across the street has workmen over. She is finding them fascinating, haha.

Find me on FacebookJanuary 9, 2024 at 8:50 am #1537512I never did get around to steaming myself lol. I am starting to feel better. Yesterday I got about half way done putting the Christmas stuff away.
Vincent doesn’t seem to have gotten as bad as I did, no fever or anything, just a sore throat. He was even starting to get noisy again in the evening. I’m giving him another day and if he doesn’t seem too bad I’ll send him to school for a couple of days. Friday he has an infusion, I was worried about him being too sick that day but maybe he’ll be ok.
Virginia, brain fog and snow, good reasons to get cozy and do something relaxing? Maybe just snuggle up with Tallie and watch the neighbourhood.
C&C always welcome. Michelle

Every painting is a new adventure.January 9, 2024 at 9:21 pm #1537557Tallie looks like she’s very content in that spot. I think I would be too. Just sit and watch the world go by.
It was a dark and stormy night last night and snow is predicted for us later in the week as well. Must be a real front moving down on all of us.

January 10, 2024 at 5:31 am #1537581lol Colin, I thought your last paragraph was the opening to a new book!!? …. Hope the storm front isn’t too bad.
Still floods and bad weather in England …. our corner is wet, miserable and cold but fortunately not getting the worst of it all.
Michelle, glad things are improving for you both and hope Vincent is ok for Friday.
Tallie has it made! Chooses her spot, is allowed, gets fed and walked while Mum is ousted and not too well! Something wrong there!??? Hope you feel well again soon Virginia.
Another funeral for me tomorrow … friend and ex-colleague …. I know it’s a blessing and she was a few years older than I, but still …. sad.
There’s a patch of blue sky, the sun shines but the rain is lashing down, looking sleety even! Weird!
Cheers, Maureen

The snow really came down last night, had to shovel about 6 inches behind the house this morning. So lucky Vincent got a snow day.
I had other things to do yesterday, like stitching up coveralls, so I still didn’t finish putting the Christmas stuff away. Should be able to finish today. Hubby had to go away to work again, good thing he left before the snow.

Every painting is a new adventure.January 10, 2024 at 8:35 am #1537601Sorry about your friend, Maureen. A loss is a loss. I don’t think losing people gets easier ”with practice”.
I always thought “it was a dark and stormy night” was a great way to open a book. Worked for Snoopy.
We have a town in B.C. —Lytton— named for the British guy who came up with that immortal line. It would be clever to set a novel in Lytton that began on “a dark and stormy night”. Maybe a tongue in cheek murder mystery.
We are supposed to get snow tomorrow night. It is expected to get down to -9C. That is very cold for us. Our geraniums still clinging to life on the deck won’t survive that.

January 10, 2024 at 9:48 am #1537606I’m so sorry for your loss, Maureen. I don’t think it gets easier. It is sad, no matter what.
Colin, that would be an excellent way to start a mystery! You’re so good with words, you should write one.
Vincent must be happy! Yay for snow!
We ended up with 8.5 inches (22cm) and then another 3inches (8cm) last night. The roads weren’t bad at all though, they were still pretty warm so with the salt and sand they stayed relatively clear. It was a heavy wet snow that sunk as it fell, I was surprised when I saw the totals I thought it was much less than that.
We had to tramp down a spot for Piper, she’s so short. She bunny hops through it. They both love it and are exhausting themselves playing in it. But last night one of them said they had to go out at midnight. Of course the other one had to go along too. Then they played and played for a good half an hour while I drank tea and watched for coyotes in my pajamas and boots in the middle of the night.

Find me on FacebookJanuary 10, 2024 at 12:13 pm #1537613What a pretty scene Virginia… branches and snow, magic to look at!
Brrr to waiting for the pups playing in the middle of the night though! How do you chase the coyotes if they venture near? Frightening!
I think Colin should get that book started too!
Im half way through a series of easy-read books set in the Pacific NW … on islands across the Pget Sound from Seattle, so not that far south of Colin! Of course, when I read about places, I like to study the map of the area … my bit I’d escapism! Google Maps are very helpful!??
Hope those geraniums are under cover before the snow and low temps come … try to stay warm and cosy. It feels cold here and the temps are still on the + side of zero!
Going to settle to some tv tonight I think, at least the new year brings new dramas, usually worth watching!
Cheers, Maureen

I also think Colin needs to write that book.
Also wondering how Virginia handles coyotes.
Yesterday when I took Diamond out late afternoon there was about another 6 inches of snow to shovel, and windy. And nearly froze my ears off. I checked our weather station, said it felt like -30 C. This morning its said -25 but feels like -34. At least there was less snow to shovel but it was hard from the wind. I haven’t even gone out the front door, going to be some hard work shoveling.
Aside from that, I will probably just putter around a bit. The house is basically back to normal but there are always things that need to be put away or organized. But my cross stitching addiction is back, that’s all I really want to do.
C&C always welcome. Michelle

Every painting is a new adventure.January 11, 2024 at 11:51 am #1537734Fortunately we’re close enough to the city that the coyotes know to be leery of people. As long as you talk and let the animals know you’re out there, most are happy to stay away. We have motion detector lights as well. They don’t like those at all. Funny though, the raccoons seem to intentionally set them off, perhaps because light keeps the coyotes away.
Of course, Tallie is a big muscular girl, she’s pretty protective of Piper too. I never let them out alone at night though. Mind you when we walk I always carry pepper spray. But more for the badly behaved dogs here than anything.
Diamond is pretty short too, does she get the snowball legs? They stick to piper like crazy. She looks like she’s covered in white pompoms when she comes in.
Today the sun came out, it’s so sparkly out. Just watched a Coopers hawk land on a branch and it made snow just fly everywhere. They are a fierce little hawk, but so funny. They seem very uncoordinated on their feet.
Hope you all are having lovely days!

Find me on FacebookJanuary 11, 2024 at 11:55 am #1537735Maureen, I meant to say I do that too with the Google maps. Sometimes I use the streetview and get totally sidetracked.
In the first years of Google streetview I had fun looking up places from my favourite books. Especially cities like London or Rome which were the first to be really well mapped.

Find me on FacebookJanuary 12, 2024 at 10:11 pm #1537889Nice snow pics Virginia.
Was very cold here today but we only got a skiff of snow last night. So no nice snow pics.
Yes it would be fun to write a book.
“It was a dark and stormy night. As the rain hammered the windows of the dining room, and the wind howled down the chimney, the body lay motionless on the floor — blood stilled, breath silenced.
A shape appeared at the door, like a spectre, and looked into the room, its gaze taking in the ornate mirror above the fireplace, the dark windows lashed with rain, the mahogany sideboard with the cracked Meissen tureen, the gleaming table. Then looked down to where the body lay motionless on the floor, arms outstretched. A candlestick on the carpet ominously near the head.
“Not another murder,” sighed the figure. “That’s the third one this week. What’s the matter with these people?”

Still very cold and snowing out here, but not snowing as much. Yesterday was Vincent’s infusion again, early in the morning. My dad drove us so I didn’t have to deal with snowy roads, and it will be a while before I get the car out of the driveway. I have made a path from the door to the street but it’s too cold to spend much time out there. Bad enough I have to keep clearing snow for Diamond behind the house.
She does get the snowball legs sometimes lol. It depends on how sticky the snow is. When it’s this cold it doesn’t stick as much. And stubborn dog will go where I didn’t shovel yet so sometimes I make her wait until I’m done before I take her out.
It’s the weekend so I’m going to pretend there isn’t much that needs to be done and do some cross stitching and stuff.
C&C always welcome. Michelle
