A new project has been announced in the WetCanvas! project system!
Title: Murrini Cane Exchange
Project Leader: BeadTowne
Relative Difficulty: Irrelevant
Type Restrictions: Glass
Medium: Any Medium
Subject: Not Applicable
Days open for signups: Always
Maximum participants allowed: UnlimitedDescription:
Are you addicted to making murrini or are you interesting in trying out something new? Either way, this exchange is for you. We love our international friends so hoping you will join in the fun!
Here’s how it works:
1. Experiment, Play, Create some canes of murrini. It can be as simple or as complex as you like.
2. When you are happy with your murrini, you can send in a little baggie of slices or a rod (2 inches perhaps?) Label each baggie with your name and WC screen name. It would be nice to write down which colors you used should you remember. IMPORTANT: Label each baggie with the COE you used.
3. PM me for my address when you are ready for mailing.
4. Send a self-addressed, stamped padded envelope (or whatever shipping method you choose) or just send $2.00 and an address label and I will take care of packaging.
5. I need to receive all murrini by April Fool’s Day, April 1, 2010. 6. Sit back and wait for your exchange murrini to arrive.

Remember, in order to help keep the discussions on projects organized, you should post your questions, suggestions, and comments on submitted work here in this thread. By doing this, we allow other non-project efforts to not get “pushed down” by a swarm of project-related threads.
January 30, 2010 at 8:32 pm #1131631Going to try to add a little clarification.
You can stick to making one type of murrini per bag or make a few/several types and do a mix and match.
How many pieces should be in a baggie if you choose to slice them? You guys can help me with that decision once we get going.
I figured once people started experimenting we can tweak this exchange to best meet our needs/wants/desires.
Oh, and I hope that you will post pictures once you receive your exchange murrini. Maybe we can start a thread in the show and tell area.
Here are some links to tuts, please add any you find.

Murrini making is one area that I am challenged at-as in illiterate
So i know what all you are thinking (stop your typing, get off your computer and go PPP)Duane
New Website: www.sunsationsartglass.weebly.comJanuary 30, 2010 at 11:41 pm #1131633Yay Diane!
Duane, It’s not as hard as it seems. Well, some of it is harder than it seems. I’m no help. Hope you are at the torch doing some PPP.
One thing I learned from taking the class with Melanie Moertel is to melt everything smooth before adding additional layers. I’ve been fortunate (spoiled) to have cane making with Corina and murrini making with Sarah Hornik and Melanie.
January 31, 2010 at 12:13 am #1131634A Youtube on pulling a bull’s eye murrini. A bit long, I fast forwarded parts and the sound isn’t great, but not bad. You can do a couple bull’s eye type patterns and then use stringer to make stripes for the last round to make it a starburst of sorts.
I have a great Japanese book on making murrini. Need to find it next weekend.
January 31, 2010 at 1:14 am #1131905I’m in!
Thanks for organizing this, Maggie! And thanks for adding the tutorial list. Using stamps as optic molds, as in the heart one … brilliant!
Come on Duane, let’s give it a try. I don’t know what I’m doing either!

Just Me. Diane :DJanuary 31, 2010 at 10:11 am #1131587OK, I’m in! Signed up! Yay! Can’t wait for this! One of my things with murrini is after I make a blue million of the same one, I get bored with it and move on. I have a lot of unused murrini!
Is it OK to send more than one, or can what I send be a mix? I have done many already that I could share, but I want to try to spiral one. Boy, when I read over the instructions for that – talk about a DUH moment! I had NO idea how that was done and now it seems so simple. Hahaha…
Thanks for all the great links, Maggie, and thanks for doing this exchange!

Debby

Debby, I figured once we got going, we would work out the details. I think sending more than one or a mix is just fine. I’m not around my torch yet and have a lot of murrini on my work table, some of those may end up being used, but I am looking forward to experimenting next weekend.
January 31, 2010 at 1:22 pm #1131827I made some already. I won’t tell you about the ones I liked, but I’ll tell you a little about the one thats fugly….it was supposed to be a bullseye murrini. I was using effetre dk red, dk lapis blue, white, petroleum grn and psychedelic dichro stix from Howaco. Ummm..yuck. I can’t see the dichro…oh well. I’m still going to make more…lets see if my next idea works..if it does, everyone will love it
