April is here! Where I live, March coming went out like a Lamb — which I’m glad of! (rather than like a lion)
What’s on your easel (or in your sketchbook) this month?
Show a finished portrait or one in any stage of progress (WIP = Work in Progress). This thread is for showcasing your work; others will only critique your work if you request it.
So please show us what you’ve been up to this month. We’d love to see it.
Even if you have already shown it in the main portraiture forum, you are invited to showcase it in this thread, also, as this thread will remain in the Library Archives. (Portrait Swap WIP shots most welcome, too! Also Self-portraits)
And be sure to check out previous Portrait Galleries in the Archives. Lots of great work in there!
So… let’s get those portraits set up in the gallery….
Cheers, Lauren

http://larubia.blog.co.ukApril 4, 2011 at 12:50 pm #515707Beautiful work, Annemarie! I love the colour of your dress/ top and the hand holding the cigarette is wonderful! The left hand is in a rather awkward pose to paint, but you’ve done a good job, I think. The wrist/ forearm below the wristbone looks a bit awkward, but perhaps it’d due to the sleeve partly covering it.
I’m wondering… how many self-portraits have you done? Have you kept a count? They would make for a really interesting art show.Cheers, Lauren

This is from life and I also did a bit of work away from the model. This is a full figure but I’ll just share the head here.. taken in-class by a fellow student!

Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/lauren.fosterm/April 5, 2011 at 7:28 pm #515738I’m pretty disappointed in this SP. I look mean, my eyes are too close together and my mouth is too wide! But I think, for once, I’ve got the nose right!
Or almost…:o
I need to go get some more canvases. I had to use a linen panel on this one, and for some reason, linen and I always have a struggle with each other! It soaks up paint no matter how much primer I put on it.

f***** good! checked your blog. damn nice works you did.. something I look forward to improve upon and learn from you
April 6, 2011 at 2:33 pm #515722Well I dont visit this forum very often other than as a lurker but as this particular subject has her clothes on I thought I would show myself. (I usually hang out in the figure forum).
Larubia I have been a fan for a long time, your work has such depth and appeal. Do you use medium in your paints, and if so what?
Kevin, I hesitate to question your awesome talent but is Sophies left eye a bit high – I know its a WIP:o? I have wondered about the alighnment of the eyes in a particular Richard Schmidt painting for a long while and he cant possibly have messed up so am more than happy to be put right.
Bethany that boy is so characterful, very well done.
Nancy, keep going with the WIP a good nose is well worth the effort :). Interesting what you said about the linen, I am struggled with this cotton canvas which seemed horribly rough all of a sudden. We are such highly strung creatures us artists eh?
