Welcome to the Plant Parade for March 2023.
Feature plant on the botanical side is the unusual lotus seed pod and/or flowers.
Choose one of the images I have posted or use your own. These are mine or the RIL, or morguefile free photos.
Few rules: Any media, any style, any combination you wish.
Reveal day is March 25th – so no sharing of work until then, but do feel free to share other thoughts or ideas about the challenge.
I’m uploading from my iPad so please no comments until finished. Thank you and have fun with them.

March 25, 2023 at 7:08 am #1507314Lovely Christel.
I did two buds. Each is about 5″x7″, ink and watercolor, XL Mix Media sketchbook.
These ended up being a lot more fun to do than I expected.
It was especially interesting to try and figure out how to get each seed raised up a little. I’m not sure how successful the soft one in the background is. This paper doesn’t do wet in wet very well which is what I was trying to do there. I think another time I would just work with a very watery color and soften the edges. I like this paper for the inking but not as much for the watercolor but when using this technique, it’s always a trade off for one medium or the other.
Thanks for hosting this month Kay.

Anne, you’ve explored all curves and dips, darks and lights with these renditions of the dried pods. Super

March 25, 2023 at 8:46 am #1507346Here’s mine, 15×22″ watercolor (Daniel Smith paints) on Kilimanjaro 140 lb cold press paper. Fell in love with its abstract background and the lone lotus pod pointing the way into the composition.

March 25, 2023 at 11:04 am #1507365Nice work Kay. The abstract background worked well here. Love the contrast of soft and hard edges.
Thanks for your comment on mine.
