Hey all – interested in your similar stories if you have one.

Last year after moving into a new home in a new state I sliced my right index finger, severing an artery and a nerve. It was very gross. Can’t believe how much blood!  The damage was so bad it hurt inside my shoulder joint to outstretch my arm. My right arm and hand were worthless for months. This threw me into a depression because I didn’t know if I would gain feeling back in that (most critical) finger. I even cried. I’m a grown woman and don’t cry because of physical pain. But I cried because I was terrified. I hit the emotional skids for a year and a half. I’m finally back, and it happened just naturally and with time. Listening to music from the past (happier, more productive times) helped a lot. I started a painting and stared at it for a few months – picked it back up and forced myself to work. I’m finally at a place where I feel actual excitement again. Thank God. And thank you, for reading :)

A slow road to recovery, but getting there it seems.

I had a similar experience many years ago, bad but not quite as serious as your own. Had been working on a woodwork project. Picked up the circular saw one morning and, foolishly in retrospect, I’d left it plugged in and switched on. Picked it up and it slipped. The trigger fell against my hand and it kicked on, just a quick jerk and off again, but my right index finger just happened to be near the blade. Cut the nerve, lot’s of blood and I nearly fainted.

It was stitched up but not very competently and a very small piece of the now-dead skin was stitched into the wound. The wound healed over and became very pressure-sensitive. I thought it must be part of the healing until after some months it hadn’t improved. Had to have the wound opened up again and cleaned out. The scar has almost disappeared now but there is still a slight insensitivity in that finger. I long ago learned to cope with it though.

PLEASE how do I make these dreadful yellow things go away? OMG there's even more of the awful things now.

Thanks for sharing your story. It’s amazing what we can get used to. There is still some numbness on the left side of that finger. Feels like hitting your funny bone. Awful, but it doesn’t affect my studio work in any way. Thanks again and have a great day!

Yikes, what dreadful stories! When I broke my arm (quite painless, strangely enough) I started drawing with my left hand. (I’m right-handed.) It wasn’t too bad; but piano practice went down the tubes.

I’m inspired by your strength and perseverance.
