Have had a hard time with using oil ground, was wondering what everyone uses to paint on.
I am planning to buy some ampersand boards with oil ground, gadlyd and gamsol, have no idea what’s the ideal dry time but it’s my third try. I did experiment with fastmatte and thought that would’ve been a replacement for oil ground but that too has issues.
AV Vellejo Acrylic Gesso is my main go to for prepping boards but as you know Acrylic grounds do not work in the rain so I always have some oil grounds to hand for the wet weather. That can be W&N Alkyd.Oil Primer or a good quality Marine Primer Undercoat such as Blakes.
Old Oil Paintings turned upside down are another good ground.
