        You could ask on the MITRA Art Conservation forums how a conservator would repair such a painting in their professional capacity? Might give you some pointers..

                I’m with you, Ron. If it wasn’t brittle, the paint should have just bent, not snapped. A disheartening event, nevertheless.

                    Hello Kumquat,

                    My question to Ron was why did he think the painting “looks” brittle… as in visually.  Was he seeing something outside of the obvious cracking that I wasn’t seeing.  I didn’t mean to open a debate on if the painting IS brittle.  I’m not arguing that there is damage.  Ron has clarified his answer.

                    I came here seeking help.  Thank you for your sympathy.
