They’re so pretty! Thanks Dewi…. I think you have access to some beautiful garden areas to take all these photos!
Tiny? …… well ….. ok, tiny they will be!??

This’ll be tricky. I always paint large flowers! I think I shy away from smaller flowers because they’re usually in clusters that can be hard to make out.

Though I suppose the piece I recently started qualifies as “small flowers”…

        Ooops, Maureen, TK H-H, Kay.

Sorry if the idea of small or tiny flowers would have confused you.
Of course you could paint in any size.

Remember when I painted the white flowers and the desert queen thorn? They were small flowers, too.
Will try to post them here if possible.

        Maureen, you are welcome.
Yes, the small park belongs to the real estate. Pity right now it is getting smaller because they are building a new condo.

Viv, of course you may, it would be nice to paint small roses.

        Thank you, everyone.

        Thanks Dewi!

I used to have a huge collection of Mini-rose bushes when we had our farm – over 60. But unfortunately couldn’t bring many with me when we moved into the city. I used to buy tiny vases to display them in. Here’s a couple of photos of some.

I like the idea of the miniature roses. I have some pictures of a multicolored one I used to grow. Unfortunately it didn’t live super long. I can’t seem to figure out growing roses.

This is a long shot, and I hope you guys don’t mind me asking here… but does anyone here happen to use ArtSpectrum Colorfix paper? I wanted to post in the pastel forum but I haven’t seen a single person there since I joined. :-(

I was wondering if it takes fixative well? I tried it for the first time for a piece of some butterflies and berries, but I’m afraid to put fixative on it because I found the paper was so easy to smudge. I usually use Spectrafix fixative on my other papers with no issue.

If there’s somewhere more appropriate for this, feel free to move it if possible. I just wasn’t sure where else to post given most of the forums are dead…

I tried emailing the company but still haven’t heard back. I’m mostly just worried about the fixative running because of the primer on the paper.

                Sundiver

                Tuscanny

TK, Wendy ( Sundiver) is moderator in Pastels and Christel, Tuscanny is Moderator in Oil pastels, and also uses pastels. Contact either or both via the private message system and they should help.

I know that paper is used a lot but don’t know about the fixative.

                Cheers, Maureen

TK HH –  Yes Ive been a Pastel Artist for over 20 years and belong to PANZ (Pastel Artists of NZ).  And yes, Ive used ArtSpectrum Colorfix paper extensively, with and both without fixative.  If I was intending to frame and exhibit, Id have to use fixative. Ive never been keen on using it, as it does darken values. A good tip (if using fixative,) is re-state your brightest, lightest values last before it goes to the framer.

Thanks for the input, Vivien. I did end up deciding to try the fixative. I didn’t have issues with it running, but I did notice the value change. I also noticed it made some areas look a bit rough? Not as smooth as they were pre-fixative. So I was a little bummed about that. But hey… now I know.

Dewi – I haven’t started yet either. I started a pastel that qualified for this challenge but scrapped it because it really wasn’t working out. I have another piece I sketched out that could maybe qualify, but it wasn’t designed with this challenge in mind. It was designed as a gift.
