Do any companies that you all know of sell sample pieces of linen? I want to try out oil primed linen but spend the money on a full roll just isn’t in the cards.

January 13, 2020 at 6:13 pm #932431As Gary suggests, just buy a group of small canvases to test out- many I’ve see like Ray-Mar and Claessens.

Scmelik, are there any good art supply retailers in your area?
I mean, bricks’n’mortar, not online.
Because there are some in my neighbourhood that sell art supplies, but also do stretching and mounting of canvases.
So they have bins with offcuts, from custom stretching jobs.
You can buy these small oddments, maybe just a short length, to see if you like how it handles.
Seems to me you need something like that, yes?
Maybe try searching for a local art store that does custom canvas stretching?
All the best!:::

no unfortunately the best art store we have around here in Hobby Lobby or Michaels. Closest Dick Blick is 5 hours away sadly (or fortunately however you want to look at it LOL).
Thanks for the idea of buying pads, I didn’t know that anyone made an oil primed linen pad. I will do some more research into those

Thanks I am aware that I can buy panels. I have a bunch of ampersand hardboard panels that I figured I could use up for something other than taking up space by gluing linen if I could find some smaller pieces.
