Hi All – you can use diluted, mixed, thick, grey or whatever else you can come up with but only using black and white. And you can make silver from black and white, so it is useable too. Hope this helps. Cheers

October 6, 2018 at 1:05 pm #703600Carl, I have one finished and I’m planning another.
Same scene, but using a chromatic black mixed from ultramarine blue and burnt siena. I’ll make a bit batch in the beginning and use the same batch throughout. I think the grays will be much nicer that way.
A painting is never really done as long as I can get my hands on it.

The refs are reviewing your color play…….
After further review, the ruling on the field stands and your color play is “acceptable”

The same negative printed on different photo papers will look different. Same thing here – there’ll be a range of tonal values that are more or less neutral.
The difference is that sometimes these two pigments combine with titanium white to give very nice silvery grays. We’ll see how it turns out.

October 8, 2018 at 7:27 am #703636Hi ah , I am going to join this challenge, more around its Ansel Adams theme, and that I need the practice, being I am newish to acrylics sort of…. and I have lots to do to learn the medium.
So I do thank you for the Ansel Adams link, and I have chosen and drawn out the Navajho Indian with child. fingers crossed.
Just hoping I don’t get the constant interruptions and I finish in time. and it doesn’t turn out rubbish…
cheers.

October 9, 2018 at 6:21 pm #703628…just to clarify …the challenge is to paint a landscape in B&W?
October 9, 2018 at 9:40 pm #703498Hey Woody – Landscapes are an option. However, Ansel Adams photographed many many other subjects (people, buildings, etc). So, “in the style of” and in black and white, you have many options (even vegetables). Cheers
