None of my MaimeriBlu paints smell bad and I have had some for few years.

In my opinion if it smells bad you might consider returning it to the supplier.

        Kind regards.

I’d return it. Paint shouldn’t smell. It’s probably old stock gone off.

            This thread is interesting.

I squeezed out some Maimeri Blu paints today and one Permanent Lemon PY 175, had separated. So, I used a cocktail stick to remix it in the tube. Afterwards, the cocktail stick smelled of what I can only describe as ‘poop’ not a strong smell, but it’s there.

I smelled the others as they were on the palette, and the Primary Red Magenta PV19 also has a very slight whiff of ‘poop’ although it hasn’t separated.

Returning the paints isn’t an option, I’ve had them for a couple of years now. Throwing them seems too wasteful, they are practically full.

They seem useable enough, just have this slight smell ( I admit, I am very sensitive to smells ;-) )

Just considering adding a drop of clove oil to the paint in the tube to prevent further deterioration.

            Any thoughts?

ETA – I have sent Maimeri BLu an email about this asking for their advice. Don’t know if they’ll reply though.

Just walked past the palette and…. smell has got worse! they all have the smae smell! What’s going on?

Not sure adding an oil (clove oil) to watercolor paint  is a good idea…

Don’t worry, not added it yet :wink2:

Waiting to see if I hear from the company.

The smell is gone from the paints in the palette today, but the tubes still smell

Just would like to know if it’s normal, or likely to be/cause a problem?

Sometimes my Rembrandt paint smells of “chemical’ right after squeezing it on to my palette. The smell goes away quickly, it doesn’t return, and my paintings have no smell to them. My few tubes of Maimeri Blu’s don’t smell, and I make the assumption that the “smell” also doesn’t last, and most importantly, do not make you paintings smell. If it does, you may have run into a bad batch?
