You sound like you have your supplies ready to venture out. I found when I first started sketching outdoors I would sit with my back to a wall and put on a sunhat and sunglasses and people ignored me. lol Now I’m so used to people coming around when I’m sketching that it really doesn’t bother me. Nice lunch sketch!

April 12, 2018 at 3:34 pm #592485Well I was coming home from shopping yesterday and decided to stop and sketch for a few minutes. It was too windy to sit outside so I sketched and started putting the wash on in the car. I learned that I need a larger surface to rest my sketchbook on and that the steering wheel gets in the way while using the water brush! A good learning experience.

April 12, 2018 at 3:40 pm #592458A neat colourful sketch. You can get a board to put over the steering wheel.

April 15, 2018 at 8:47 am #592468Kate, nice sketch! When I sketch in my “mobile studio” (which I do a lot) I push the driver’s seat all the way back and it gives me enough room between me and the steering wheel to work on something that is no more than 8 x 10. I usually work flat on my lap. It isn’t the most comfortable position but it seems to work.

I’ll post a photo once I get to use it can give a review. Encouraging to know your mobile studio works for you Joan — your sketches are wonderful.

April 17, 2018 at 10:09 am #592474Great sketches going on here. I really like the way you manage to mix and blend colours within your defined lines and not come out muddy. I usually fall apart, haha. Keep it up, and keep posting. Nice to see.

Sketch-BlogApril 17, 2018 at 11:59 am #592488Thanks Munin Raven. I think the lack of “mud” is because I tend to draw and paint quickly and don’t go back to correct. My non-sketchbook paintings however are another story!

[FONT=Book Antiqua]www.watercolorsbyjoan2.blogspot.comApril 17, 2018 at 5:56 pm #592489Here it is Joan, with the first sketch using my mobile studio! It works well — I just have to scoot my seat back a little and adjust the tilt of the steering wheel. Couldn’t wait to use it in spite of a busy day. The sketch was rushed but I so enjoyed my new toy!

April 17, 2018 at 6:27 pm #592459That looks really useful Kate, larger than I pictured. There is a version with a cup holder which could be used for your water (though I normally sketch with a water brush).

We must leave our mark on this worldApril 17, 2018 at 6:47 pm #592490There’s an indented cup holder on the reverse side Doug, but since I too use water brushes, I opted for the side shown. Thanks so much for steering me toward the steering wheel “desk”. It works perfectly!

April 19, 2018 at 3:55 am #592475Great sketches and setup Kate. You inspire to finish the drawing book I’m working through quicker so I can start sketching outdoors.

April 19, 2018 at 10:25 am #592491Thanks Sandra. Sketching outdoors was a goal for me too and I’m enjoying the adventure.
