I bought this gadget several months ago. It is very practical and handy.
It kept all my oil paints fresh for at least two weeks. The umber oil paint lasted only one week, which is quite reasonable. The main ingredient is the clove oil.
It is called the Garage Palette.

MarcF, I’ll be sure to use the Vaseline. My glass palette, 12×15, cost under $10. I keep a pack of baby wipes handy to clean my palette. One wipe cleans the whole palette.
January 1, 2020 at 4:06 pm #925559I was going to buy a Masterton box and glass palette but it would have cost me almost $100.
So I bought a certificate frame from Kmart for $6, took it apart to get the glass out. Then I duct taped the edges so I don’t get cuts. Before I did that I put some foam board behind it with a grey cardboard paper so I have a neutral palette. Then I put that palette in a $7 document box from Officeworks. Here in the U.S., a Masterson box runs somewhere between $15 and $20. And the part left out about my glass “palette” was that it was really a tempered glass cutting board with rubber bumpers on the corners that I got for $5 at a thrift store. Works great! I’ve also done more or less what you’ve done using the document box, but in my case, I was lucky enough to find another glass cutting board that was small enough to fit inside the A4 size. This is great for plein air and for transporting paint leftover from a class home again in a backpack.
The document case is not as air tight as a Masterson, so you could put a couple of cotton balls inside, with a drop of clove oil on each of them. This helps retard drying and it should be fine, although perhaps not for as long a time as a Masterson; it’ll depend on how tight the seal is on the box. Another idea is to put a large rubber band around the box to make the seal tighter than it ordinarily would be.
Also, after I commented a while ago on what a struggle it was to get dried paint off of my glass palette, contumacious and Delo suggested a razor blade paint scraper and it really works great. This is just for dried paint though. For wet paint a palette knife works best. Here’s a link to some scrapers on the Amazon U.S. site: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=razor+scraper&ref=nb_sb_noss_1

Thank you.
I was actually concerned that the document box might not be tight enough and actually thought about rubber bands. A fellow student in my class kindly said she’d give me 2 tempered glass cutting boards next time we have a class.
If I find a container that seals tight that can fit up to A4 or A3 sized palettes I’ll definitely buy it.My paintings are shown on the following:
