        This is by way of an experiment which didn’t work. It is painted on MDF, which was Gessoed many years ago, but never sanded down. I have used coloured pencils, a combination of prismacolor and Polychromos. I had a lot of trouble with the brush strokes of the gesso. Critique welcome.

            I think you should make the skin a little more visible, it blends in with the paper a little. Maybe just layer some more. But other than that it is great

                I love the work. Haven’t tried this method with pencils. MDF is smooth, so, I presume, the gesso gives it more tooth. Did the surface chew the pencils? The background looks like a wooden panel made up of strips and sort of white-washed. How did you get that look? Is it the white gesso? I have used gesso on MDF as a base for acrylic painting. I used a high density sponge roller to roll the gesso on. I think that would give a smoother surface for pencils and avoid the brush strokes. Your thoughts?
