September 9, 2023 at 1:12 am #1525611Brilliant, Derek! The colours are wonderful and like Kay said, the contrast between trunks and the leaves are magical. For the lightest trunk on the left, can I ask what colours you used? I sometimes struggle with colours that are so light and subtle.

We must leave our mark on this worldSeptember 9, 2023 at 8:57 am #1525661This is a wonderful slice of autumn.
Everything else being equal, I would rather be in the painting zone.

I had to throw two paintings in the trash recently trying to paint interior forest with dappled light because I just couldn’t pull it off. That is a testament to your experience and skill Derek. I especially love the variance in the tree hues and values. I can see why you like Fall.

September 9, 2023 at 6:19 pm #1525694I love autumn, also, and will be happy to have it this year! Great piece, especially at that size. Lots of colors working off each other, creating such nice motion & energy, but with the verticals restoring order to the scene. Kind of a cascading effect, from left to right. Nice effect to leave a lot of edges out & let the sharply contrasting colors form boundaries.

September 9, 2023 at 7:43 pm #1525698Derek….this is another gem my friend. The wonderful array of colours throughout provides the opportunity for the viewer to wander throughout this autumn beauty. I too am a huge fan of this time of year.
It is so convincing the way you paint branches and the way the branches are woven in and out throughtout the scene. Great job and thanks as always for sharing.
