12×9 inches, watercolor and oil on unprepared panel…………..wth?:)
Not sure if I want to add any more substance to the horse. Is it real or a ghost? Do I go for arty or the nice looking thing. The more I add the less ghostly he becomes. Thoughts? Also thinking of a crop off the top and right side. I should have placed him at the third.
I’m waiting for my M Graham oils. My first real set of regular oils! Yay! This is like a transition piece between my old watercolors and the new oil paints. The horse is the only thing in oil.
February 12, 2018 at 12:35 am #564376nice darks for h20’s and an interesting mix to add oils on top, i’ve not heard of that one … if you can squeeze in a fourth leg it’d be good (you do know not to put glass over oils, right)
looking forward to seeing your new adventures into oils!la

It reminds me of the rarely seen white stud who roams with wild horses close to our New Mexico house. I’d leave it alone although cropping would help the focus.

February 12, 2018 at 10:30 am #564378It does have a ghostly feel to it! I agree re-cropping a bit off the top as it brings the focus more on the horse.

And I just remembered, I used acrylic white on the sky to start. So I got all three on one painting. Maybe I can add some gouche and tempura and plaster.
The reference photo shows just three legs but I was thinking about that also. I might have to make something up, oh no.
LOL, no, no glass. Trying to get away from glass. I’m liking raised panels which is what this is on. Makes for an easy nice wall hanging. No framing needed but a thin black edging is easily put on if wanted. The bloody framing thing drives me nuts. I’m varnishing my watercolors and getting them out from behind the glass.
Thanks La, I think I’m going to like these oils but I’m pretty confused right now. I don’t even know what surface to paint on.
February 12, 2018 at 5:22 pm #564374Thanks Kay and Katie.
I may have to take the saw to this. There is something to that law of thirds.
I just realized, the image above now shows it cropped like I wanted, initially it did not, weird.
