Just received my panpastels today (set of ten) and this is my practice work. Didn’t have all the little tools just the sponges. Definately need more practice mixing colours. And I didn’t erase my graph lines and they show through in places. Not a great background colour either because I didn’t clean off the sponge in between. Just getting a feel for them but so far I love them 😄. Done on Strathmore drawing paper.
Lovely painting. There’s something about his face, the tilt of his head, and his expression that is really intriguing to look at.

Nice! How did you find the panpastels? I’ve just started with them and am fnding them tricky in the first layer (on velour) but easier after that. The tools take a bit of getting used to don’t they?!
Thanks Allison, so far i really like them. I only have the little sponges that came with the set of ten so it was tricky doing the finer areas. I only really put down one layer of colour also as i was just experimenting with how they handled. I plan to get some more colours and the tools for the sponges. Also need to get some pastel pencils and pastel sticks when my budjet allows.
Welcome to the pastel forum!!! I clicked on your bio and it could have been mine. It’s obvious that you have an art background, you just need a little time to figure out pastels. We are all here to help you along your journey. If you have any major questions, ask them in Pastel Talk. Great start!!!

This is really nice, especially for your first try with pan pastels! I haven’t tried them yet and always admire the soft effects they can give. Have fun with them!
