To be honest, I did this just to not worry for a bit. Also I don’t think I’ll be having any unsuspecting strangers to draw for some time…hopefully not for too long. Blue pen on A3 paper. Followed the time.

Thanks David. You’re right, it’s not worth worrying, esp over something I have no control over. The PM of my country has just announced that we’ll be on a lockdown from 18th till end of this month, so to look at it positively, it’s time to work on my hands and feet (drawing, i mean).

Your drawings are remarkably like Raphael Constance, here is his study for The Virgin and Child.

                Dave.

Costance, they are wonderful draws. (also the poses and the model of the video are very recognizable, but the beauty of the designs is really a lot)

I think it’s exactly true what Dave says, what Dave shows us.
I’m sorry that as I read in another post that your country has been very affected.
I hope that the situation will return to normal as soon as possible. (wish and that it will not take you long for everything to pass and return even to the most unsuspecting strangers)
in any case it is really right what you say, and take advantage of the blockade.
for example, with these designs of yours, you really created a great beauty. so I think you know what’s very important.
(I think that with your art you always or in any case very often, so thank you)
thank you very much for showing us what you created from the video.
                    a warm greeting

Nice. I’m continuing my Figuary 2020 experience, by doing Figuary 2019 ‘s videos (Croquis Cafe at Vimeo, and Love Life Drawing at YouTube) through the course of this March 2020. I’m hash-tagging any of the pictures I post from this personal challenge as #marchuary2020 on Instagram, so you can find my contributions.

Further thoughts about the Figuary type challenges.

I think I’m learning a good deal. And, now that I’ve back to backed Figuary 2020 with Marchuary 2020, I have literally drawn a figural challenge daily for more than a month and a half, so that much has been a definite benefit. Some of the instruction has been invaluable, too (though some of it is old-hat stuff I had heard before). A big success from the instruction today, for example, was a description of how to use lighter and then darker lines through the course of a quick gesture drawing, thus creating a more fool-proof drawing throughout the course of the thing, such that you don’t end up having to correct yourself by means of excess darkness and the eventual scoring of the paper right down to the spiral binder.

The poses are short! SHORT! very very VERY short. Over all, one of the biggest challenges has simply been, to honor the time-restrictions and learn to finish within them. You really can NOT get much done in a one-minute time limit for a figural pose gesture drawing. You have to learn how much a minute is, in terms of seeing and drawing, and then decide how to edit your aspirations down to just that much and no more. I don’t have a good feel for the duration of a two-minute pose — I often notice myself trying to do too much for the time; and, surprisingly, almost as often I will try to do too little for the time as well, and end up bored / disaffected / feeling “finished” at about 1:30, with a cruddy scribble feeling finalized beneath my hand and yet time left in which I could not possibly improve it. So the twos are harder for me, yet the ones and the fives are starting to really work out for me. Of course, there’s no law against pausing the video for as long as you might want, and plenty of people do just that, coming up with some lovely artworks at whatever duration they turn out to expend. But some part of me feels like I will get greater benefit from letting the powers behind the recording camera dictate my duration, rather than indulging in dilatory response. I am confirming that the self-editing requirement is an excellent way to learn, and you don’t just learn self-editing. It causes a setting of priorities, a type of gestalt viewing of the whole project and the whole scene or figure that you’re drawing.

Thanks Dave, Joe, Harry, Nathan, llawrence, cliftonprince and Bill for the encouragement.

Dave, thanks for sharing Raphael’s studies. I took some time, ‘reading’ his lines in this image…I wish I could draw or make studies like him! Will try to be more disciplined and purposeful in my studies.

Joe, thank you so much for your kind words. I hope you’re doing fine where you are.

Cliftonprince, short poses are sooo challenging for me and as you can see, my 1 mins are incomplete. Would love to see your Figuary sketches. Do share the link to your drawings here, if you don’t mind.

Bill, I’m trying my best :)

hi Costance, even in Italy, almost everything is blocked at least until April 3 for about ten days. unfortunately, the last few days have been negative due to the increase in victims and counts.
In any case, I hope that it will improve now and be resolved as soon as possible all over the world. a warm greeting and good art.
luckily that drawing is something we can do while on lockdown.

art is a wonderful and powerful thing and really seeing, being able to admire your works is something precious for which I believe that many of us are grateful.

Glad you’re interested. The best way to find my Figuary drawings is to look for me on Instagram. My user-name there is identical to here, cliftonprince, and I have been using the hashtags #figuary2020 and #marchuary2020 for my figure work. Nothing mind-blowing there, don’t get your hopes up, but you can see what I’m trying to do anyway. :)
