I use Fabriano Accademica 200gms in 100 sheet pads.

        It is great practice paper!
It is really cheap and I paint like a millionarie when I use it.
I burn thru the stuff without even think about the cost of paper

Since the key to success is practice then use lots of practice paper to practice on……….

dpc – I don’t NEED a stretcher – that’s my new mantra. You’re right I need to practise more on painting rather than messing about stretching paper. Not sure whether I will get my hubby to ever make me a paper stretcher, his brain is occupied too much by golf!

Maggie – I’ve gesso’d the back of paper to try and stiffen it up a bit but I really want to retain the texture of the watercolour paper for the painting. But I will try gesso on the front some time to see what I make of it. Thanks for the tip about acrylics on blocks, at the moment I’m looking at 1/4 size 11 x 15″ to begin with – anything bigger than that scares me!

Neeman – Thanks for the tip on Accademica 200 gsms – not sure how easy it is to find over here but I will keep my eye out for it and it is good to know that you recommend it.

autolisp – thanks for replying about the practice paper. I don’t think I will be buying it.

Neeman – Thanks. I’ve have bought from Jacksons Art before – I’ll take a look at their website.

                        Actually
Bockingford 140 lbs in bulk is quite cheap.
and much better than either the Fabriano 130 lbs or the Accademica
