It is so difficult, at least for me as I am learning watercolor, to make a night scene.  It looks muddy, although in reality, it is very much more colorful, but not as dark.  I wanted it to be colorful AND dark!  LOL!  Well, I used very low quality paper and paints and have decided that it was time to bite the bullet and get some good supplies.  I think it matters, but we will see if it makes a difference in my feeble attempts.  This is 12×16.

Your picture looks a little dark, i.e. not enough brightness in the lights.

You may have better success with using white acrylic paint if you were originally trying white watercolours. Nice work.

Thank you, John.  I used frisket and it tore the paper when I removed it.  I think I will try this same picture, again, with good paper.

Great composition, I would love to see it after you get it sorted out. My advice, which I have to remind myself of frequently, don’t be afraid to start lighter than you think you need to. You can always add layers.
