I’ve always stored my paintings (oil on panels) by wrapping them in glassine paper. This is also how I will transport them to galleries for shows. However, inevitably galleries will throw away my paper and upon picking up paintings after the show I have to bring more glassine and wrap them at the gallery, which is time consuming and incredibly annoying. Occasionally the gallery will save the paper, but it’s still a pain to rewrap and tape while at the gallery. On one occasion a gallery actually took my paintings off the wall and stacked them – some of them face to face – causing scratches to several paintings. I’m trying to find an effective and affordable solution here. Some sort of box or envelope sized properly for the paintings I do (mostly 18×24 and under these days). Something a painting will just slip into or out of quickly. So the gallery can easily take them down and store them safely until I pick up, or that I can easily and quickly pack them before taking them home.

I’ve seen a few expensive options like these: https://masterpak-usa.com/collections/frontpage but there’s got to be a cheaper alternative. Doesn’t need to be sturdy enough for shipping. Just something to protect the surfaces of the paintings for transport to and from the gallery.

Just like any other man, only more so.

That’s awful if the galleries are damaging your paintings. I hope you find something suitable.

Thanks, Doug. Only one gallery actually caused damage, thankfully. Searching around and so far the best option seems to be glassine envelopes like these:

Basically the same as what I do now, but a lot easier to wrap everything up quickly. Still open for suggestions. B-)
