A local shop that carries my greeting cards asked if I could paint some scenes from around town. Here’s a first attempt — a corner shop in our downtown area.
Thanks for your helpful feedback about perspective, colors, etc. I hope to improve and have some fun options soon. The picture is just a touch dark, but fairly representative of the painting.

We must leave our mark on this worldFebruary 26, 2019 at 3:42 pm #788626A nice scene with good perspective, Frank! I hope the other subjects you choose work as well for you.
JoanFebruary 26, 2019 at 4:12 pm #788624Your painting has somewhat of a small town feel to it for me, and I really like it. I once posted an illustration that featured three crows in a tree enjoying a bag of Frito Corn Chips and the subject of copyright law came up. Several posters advised me to get a release from the Frito Lay corp. before using the illustration. That scared me enough that I did contact them, but I never received a reply back. I have thought about using that illustration as greeting cards to friends, but the copyright thing kept me from using it.

Just one comment on perspective; the facade with the Coca Cola sign falls away too much. Although we are not ‘square on’ to this elevation we are not far off it and therefore the parapet top and windows should appear almost level and only fall away slightly.

February 27, 2019 at 3:59 pm #788630Thanks, all, for your encouragement and helpful insight.
I took a gamble and added some figures — yes, a downtown area should have life. I was so tempted to add someone crossing the near left crosswalk, but I feared an accurately sized figure there would accent some of the errors in perspective. I hope these dabs made an improvement to this version.

February 27, 2019 at 4:42 pm #788625Your gamble was a big success. The inclusion of the figures tied everything up in a big nice bow.:)
