I bought some Speedball super black ink a while back on a whim and decided to try it out with a old nib and holder I’ve had since college (12+ years ago). It was a lot more fun than I remember it being. Maybe because it wasn’t for a grade. :) Used a brush pen for some of the larger areas and brush and diluted ink to wash the sky.

It’s a lovely fresh sketch and you have a really good variety of marks in the foreground area , well done!

Watch your perspective though … yourceye level is very low but you’ve drawn the castle as though you were up level!
        Evenso, I like this drawing!

        Cheers, Maureen

Thank you Maureen. I haven’t focused on perspective much in recent years and yesterday I was thinking that I need to focus on it more. I checked out a couple books on doing pen and ink sketches of buildings from the library. Hopefully I will improve.

Clark – don’t know how much you know about the subject so forgive me if I’m underestimating you!

Thank you for the link Maureen. In high school I wanted to be a architect so I had a drafting table that I did all my art on (T-Square to make sure perspective was right, triangles to get the angles right. A good friend still has that table to do his art on almost thirty years later) and my art teacher was focused on one and two point perspective so I used to know it. Currently I am trying to get techniques down (those darn trees always confuse me) so I’m more focused on that and the perspective slips away.

Thank you Bluegill and Anthony for the kind words. More to come I hope.
