Sometimes Maureen and I are in a competition for best procrastinator lol.
I often feel that lack of motivation. These challenges are often the only thing I get painted in a month, I feel a bit of a push to take part. But a challenge like this can be hard to get started. So many possibilities, and so much imagination required. You have to start narrowing down the ideas to what you want to paint. And then just sit yourself down and get started. Use this challenge to just do something fun and it might help you get back to your other projects.

Every painting is a new adventure.October 14, 2023 at 5:18 pm #1529112I have been painting nightmares for yrs. I just finished two for this month’s challenge and I have one that I salvaged from a flood that might clean up.

"Painting is my meditation"October 16, 2023 at 7:47 am #1529256I had to stop reading Stephen King because he was too depressing lol. I don’t know if I have a favourite monster book author but I’m reading a book of Lovecraft stories now. What a gruesome imagination he had.

Every painting is a new adventure.October 16, 2023 at 10:17 am #1529270Stephen King … he’s the only horror author I read because I generally don’t like horror! My late Mum would have been in her element with this challenge!??

So far so good, but I am not sure I won’t muck up what I’ve achieved so far. So I may photograph it at an early stage just in case.
Favourite monster authors? Hmm. Probably Ovid as I find the ancient monsters more compelling than the “modern” ones. (My son laughed at me when I described Dracula and Frankenstein as “modern” in my way of thinking.
JK Rowling was very good at monsters. The Dementors are very creepy. And some of her “humans” are pretty creepy too. The guy with the face in the back of his head still makes me shudder. Glad none of my teachers tried to pull that.

October 16, 2023 at 8:16 pm #1529312Good to see everyone busy on the monster theme. I just finished Kings book called “Fairy Tales”. A great read. To me it was Harry Potter and the Lord of the Rings on steroids. My first monster is almost done and I will be doing another, maybe. Cheers
