October 3, 2023 at 5:42 pm #1528030Face of Pollies? What do they look like? OK Colin, maybe you will find a Barney stone and put your Bigfoot forward and Loch Ness to your paints!
Carl – Pollies – our slang for politicians.

Painting is a complete distraction. I know of nothing which, without exhausting the body, more entirely absorbs the mind. Winston Churchill
October 3, 2023 at 7:26 pm #1528033Merri – Ah, I get it. And here I was thinking of some exotic flower of some sort that looked rather monster-like. Ya know the plant in the Little Shop of Horrors? It shall be named going forward as Pollie.

Great idea Carl. Thanks for hosting.
I have not tried those paints either.

"Painting is my meditation"October 6, 2023 at 5:39 am #1528255I have been using Jerry’s brand of acrylics — SoHo heavy body for several years now I love them They are thick and juicy and they offer a very nice variety of colors. I switch between these & Lukas water soluble oils, which I also love. I now use the WSO’s on an equal amount as I do a loose mockup with my acrylics and finish the piece with my WSO’s.

October 11, 2023 at 11:43 am #1528776How are all the monster paintings doing out there? I am still in the conceptual phase. The Board (Cat & Dog) will meet tomorrow and see if the concept meets their approval.

October 11, 2023 at 3:38 pm #1528789Question … are all monsters BIG? Hmmmmm ….. something for The Board to consider Carl?

I realized I could do a pen and ink drawing for Inktober and then paint it with acrylic. I’m all for combos right now.
Question: I have people fighting the monster. Would a drip or two of blood constitute gore?
October 11, 2023 at 7:33 pm #1528801Hi
Maureen – according to the monster manual, page 34, a monster has no size definition. It can be any size.
ozeanbay – I think we can safely say that you are safe from the “gore flag” if it is not a primary focal point in the painting or eye catching. If you (the painter) say “ewwww” then it’s too much.
Cheers

I did find a photo for the setting and started digitally painting my monster to see if I can get the vague image in my head into reality.

Every painting is a new adventure.October 12, 2023 at 8:23 am #1528839Hello Charlies Mum.
Hello everybody.
Its me back again. Tereza spelled with a zed, like on my birth certificate. Have not been doing much art, as such. Just little bits here and there. But now the long darkness is coming with winter I thought you might let me in from the cold and give me some ideas to unblock my whatyoumacall it….. when you cant think? And yeah, to top it all my memory is not so good, which is a great excuse for getting out of doing things at times.
But Hey, I have always loved Wet Canvas and here the prodigal daughter has returned.
Am looking at monsters and soo many ideas come, I just cant think how to put them down on canvas or on 300gsm Art Board. Oh, how I love art materials. Have got masses of different types of paper, but it just lies there in stacks waiting to be used. Got not inspiration, worst of all got no motivation.
Help. If thats not the worst how about this….. about seven months ago, before I moved homes, I started a commission, its only half done. Have two other commissions to fill, and promise of another coming up.
I just cant move myself to get started. Maybe its because I am living in a silent world. Music used to help but I have even lost interest in that. What am I doing wrong?
Now you know what I have been doing (or not doing) since I was last in here can you please come up with some helpful suggestions to get me motivated?
Yes, am interested in a monster.
From me to you.
October 12, 2023 at 12:25 pm #1528859Long time no see-hear Teresa, so welcome back!
Finding your lost Muse is often difficult, take it from one suffering the same lack of motivation and inclination to pick up the brushes!
Being interested in THE MONSTER is a good start though …. and if you have ideas, even better, so get a pencil or pen in your hand, pull some if that paper off the stack and move your whole arm to just scribble BIG ideas!
I’m building towards my monster by, just this week, MAKING myself spend 15 mins drawing small thumbnail entries, in pen, for Inktober. I thought, if I did this, I could work towards drawing my monster idea, then paint him.
Thats my aim anyway …… but ….. as others here know, I’m an excellent procrastinator!??
Cheers, Maureen
