I guess you could do an online search for ‘pile of sand at night’ and see what pops up.

We only see colour because of light .. common sense, I know, but sometimes we forget that with different degrees of light, colours become much closer, less different from each other. … making it, probably, irrelevant! I think what I’m trying to say is, you might only see your pile of sand vey minimally, through slight changes of tone!

You want things to be visible but still look like night. Often requires some artistic licence. Sometimes helps to study how other artists do it.

Every painting is a new adventure.October 16, 2022 at 2:43 pm #1488691You guys are wonderful! I have some new avenues to explore as I try to improve this painting. Thank you!
October 17, 2022 at 1:05 pm #1488789Unfortunately I don’t do acrylic inks. Decades ago I worked in India ink which is not acrylic ink. However if I’m allowed to just enter a straight acrylic painting, I’d like to submit a recent painting that was rejected from this month’s local “favorite animals” show. It’s on the list.
Is anyone doing a Halloween themed effort?
October 17, 2022 at 2:18 pm #1488805Jim, it’s ok to use any kind of acrylics for this challenge …. Michelle is just using Inktober for the prompts … any ink work is extra and not specifically required.

I got started on mine yesterday, and I’m also doing a night scene, and it’s Halloween themed. And the reference I’m basing it on is daytime, I spent so much time thinking about what colours to use in the sky.

Don’t think I will have the courage to post them though. I need alot more practice but this is really helping. This was a great idea for a challenge Michelle.
Looking forward to seeing what others come up with.

Cindy

"Painting is my meditation"October 20, 2022 at 12:54 pm #1489108I have one that is actually coming along. (“Well sur-prize, sur-prize” as Gomer Pyle would say). With any luck it will be done around the time it is to be revealed.
