I’ve been away for a while, just got home Sunday and yesterday had to go pick up my car from the shop and buy a new phone as my old one apparently had a battery that expanded as it pushed the back off the old phone and wouldn’t hold a charge below 75% (took me all day to install the apps again in the new one as they couldn’t get them off the old one.  So I had a few minutes today to paint my submission.  The inspiration was the forests of late fall in the hills.  I used Hookers Green and Alizarin Crimson and a bit of Cad Red Hue and some titanium white.  I missed using my Burnt Sienna.  I didn’t realize we could add yellow as well, I would have been able to duplicate the burnt sienna warmth a bit closer with some yellow.  It’s 10 x 8 on canvas board.  I’ll be back to comment on everyone’s pieces.  They all look great!

You’ve had a lot going on, David! The few minutes you had produced a great painting. It definitely has the feel of a late fall forest in the hills. It also reminds me of the forests here after a fire sweeps through and the sun is setting.

Is there going to be a December challenge? I think I have an idea for one if people are up for something. Honestly, I may struggle again to have time to sit down and paint through December though given everything else. I could at least post the idea though. Or I could save it for another month.

David,   you have done a lovely painting….  especially pressed for time.  Well done     I really like how you made the leafless forest so appealing.

                    Cheers Merri

Thanks everyone. Merri, good paints can be expensive. But like Maureen, I paint thin and a little goes a long way.

Thanks Michelle…& Maureen.    I guess for me,  I will stay with cheapies… I tend not to do as much acrylic as I do water colour.   ( that is where I spend my $)
                        Cheers Merri.

David, yours turned out super with the varied warm browns.  You’ve had a lot going on! Glad you could participate :bye:

Good work David. Yellow would have given you more options but working with a very limited palette is a good challenge.

Ozean, I think a lot of us struggle to find time in December. My idea was to have an open holiday thread where people can post pics of whatever they are doing.

                        C&C always welcome. Michelle

Wow David – I thought my life was complicated enough at present! Well done for getting ANY paint on paper never mind this warm selection of … a Mars Forest? Love it! Very nice warm browns.

                        Relax now!!!!

Ozean – many thanks for the offer – we have an idea for Dec/Jan, but I’d love you to host after that if you have the time please! Say February?

We’re hoping to make the next couple of months less stressful for all! ;-)

Michelle – we posted bang on synchronised :yahoo: time!!!!! …… I was just about to message you – so look for it!

Glad you guys have something figured out for Dec/Jan! I think February sounds like a good month for me to take. I’ll write it down in my calendar.

On another note, is anyone else having struggles with accessing the WC forums page? I keep getting a 404 error. I only made it here to this thread through my link in my email.

Hi All – The art this month has been truly amazing. My compliments on everyone’s contributions, Wow. :good: :good: :good:

ozeanbay – yes, I am getting the same 404 error. So I click on the list to the right. Anyway, I am wondering if the website is trying to tell us something  ?

Thanks all for the comments on mine!  My busy schedule is the tip of the iceberg.  I retired on the 17th, my phone started acting up on that day on the way to drop my car off for a recall notice repair, we were leaving for a trip to my wife’s nephew’s place the next morning, two days before that my wife noticed a fraudulent credit card charge so my credit card was canceled and the credit card company was sending me a new one, but it wouldn’t arrive before I got back home.  I’m also in the process of  setting up my and my wife’s healthcare plans.

So I joked around that, for my entire time away, I had no job, no money, no car, no phone, and was living with relatives out of a suitcase.    However, since my wife’s credit card worked, I also called myself a “kept man”.

Fortunately it was all just temporary, I got my car back working great, the credit card was waiting for me in the mail when I returned home, and I got a new phone and got it working Monday.   Now I just have to work on the healthcare thing.  :good:

Kay, thanks for hosting, very interesting challenge.

Christel, great job on that still life!  Excellent modelling of the forms.  Nice use of the browns.

Merri, love the variety of browns, really good job of keeping with the theme.  Nicely painted!

Kay, great fur on the buffalo, some nice browns in there and I like the hints of other colors forming the browns.

Cindy, you really got some nice brown looking browns from your mixes.  Nicely painted moose!

Jim, self portrait?  Nicely painted, good mixing of the neutral and light browns.

Maureen, Lovely foliage, good variety and color within the brown family.

Mary, nice little plein air painting.  Fits the challenge with the mixed browns and still looks colorful.  Nicely painted!

Colin, I have an observation of your work, I think your values are getting better and better and seem to define much of your work that I see here.  This has such nice controlled values that I prefer it to the photo.  Very well done.

ozeanbay, I like the brown you achieved and your chart is fascinating.

Tereza, some great browns you’ve mixed.  Nice little still life, well done!

Michelle, beautiful rendering of the scene.  Love the woodwork and the metal.  I had to scroll past it to see if you had posted the painting to go with the photo at first.  Really well done painting!

                                        Nice work everyone! :good:

David, I sympathise about the fraud and card! For a month now, I’ve been trying to get an account unblocked following fraudulent activity! Spent/wasted many hours on phone … they’re clearing the fraud, fine, but the temporary block seems permanent and none of the Help assistants seems able to find out why!

I’m glad all the other issues are sorted for you!

Ozean … thank you … I’ll be making a new Schedule at some point. :good:

A good response to your challenge Kay :good:  … thanks again for hosting.

                                        Cheers, Maureen

Very evocative painting, David. Nice work, as ever. The composition really works to draw in the eye.

Thanks for your observations on my submission as well. Cheers.
