Tereza – Jaunty little floral arrangement there. Glad you were able to get in.

Thank you for all your kind words about my landscape.

Kay – what a great idea for a theme. Thanks for hosting.

Teresa — I love all your mixing charts! And lovely flowers.

Thanks, everyone, for your gracious comments on my background.

I hope everyone who celebrated had a wonderful Thanksgiving! It was low-key and enjoyable here. Maybe too much pie though.

Sorry guys, I’m late with this. It’s been one of those months, just busy and a bit awful.

First off, your palettes are all so neat! Mine is a mess.

Christel and Merri, those still lifes are both so perfect for this. Well done both of you.

KAy and Cindy have the animals covered wonderfully. The expression on the moose is exactly what a moose would look like if it saw a buffalo.

Maureen, beautiful autumn browns! I love when the hydrangeas dry like that. (also jealous because mine didn’t bloom because of the drought this year)

Jim, I read somewhere that portraits of older people should have purple undertones and that works in yours very well! Nicely done.

Mary and Colin, perfect landscapes, if you two lived closer I would steal both of those and hang them!

Ozeanbay, that looks like suede. I know it’s not what you meant to do but it ended up looking so warm and luscious.

Tereza, those mixes are so interesting. I like the more translucent mixes, gives the brown a lovely golden glow. Nice quick painting too, very lively pot of flowers!

I’m not sure if I’ll get mine finished, may try to push for that today!

Thank you Kay for such an interesting challenge, you made everyone think for sure!

Merri, both Golden and Liquitex have paints with different viscosities. Not sure about other brands. You can learn more about them on their websites.

I cleaned my palette for the occasion, guess I better get my pics ready.

Here’s my palette. I decided to try a limited palette of 3 primaries, black, and white. These colours are not an ideal combination if you want to make bright secondaries.

Ultramarine blue, pyrrole red, and cad yellow light.
The wrong red to make purple, the wrong yellow to make a bright orange, and the wrong blue to make a bright green. But for this project it was fine.

Blue with some orange made more of a dark green. Red with some green made a reddish brown. Then yellow with some of the purplish mixture made a golden colour. It was an interesting test. You can make different browns with just 3 colours by varying the ratios.

And the painting. I took the reference photo at the Negrych homestead museum.

Michelle –  that is really good.  I love the wood texture,  the old bells.  – all the browns you have used there.  absolutely wow.
            Beaut work.

            Cheers Merri.

Exquisite work Michelle on the old museum items that are so realistic.  You got a wide range of neutral browns, too! Love this!

Beautiful browns, superb metallic textures and patina, meticulous description in paint! Wow! Excellent work Michelle. :good:

Merri, re paints…. I don’t have enough Golden to pass judgement except to say I don’t really notice a lot of difference from the rest … it’s more expensive! I use a range … the System 3 is old, still works fine (20 years or so!) … I like W&N artists best, their Galleria lacks pigment but its a standby when others not available. Daler Rowney Cryla is very firm-bodied, not a lover of that! Have had a trial set of the Interactives for years, but not a fan of those either,  so mix them with the rest!

For value, the System 3 takes a lot of beating I think,  and its made in soft-body too if preferred.

                Cheers, Maureen

Wow! Michelle, that’s amazing! It’s all great, but I especially love the texture and color of the metal.

Thank you for the feedback Michelle and Maureen.  I am reluctant to buy because paints over here are very expensive.

                        Cheers Merri

Merri, I’d stick with what you know and are satisfied with! The Sonja brand is easily available here but your compatriots seem to like it.

My go-to paints are the W&N and Liquitex but, as I said earlier, System 3 are cheaper and good.

I’ve realised I don’t use a lot of paint! I must be mean! I’d love to use it thickly but with acrylics, that never seems to happen!

                        Cheers, Maureen

                        Thanks everyone.

Merri, good paints can be expensive. But like Maureen, I paint thin and a little goes a long way.
