Sheila, so pleased to see you take the challenge. I rather like the simplicity. The rich blue background and the lemon yellow work beautifully.
Thank you for being open to Giovanna Garzoni, a lesser well known artist.
Yes, it is re the lemons, a lot of submissions have lemons. I used lemons and limes because the small lime tree in the pot produced more than I could use. The lemon tree needs to keep up. lol.
Cheers

May 23, 2020 at 8:24 am #1286002Well, I painted a still life. I knew that my set up wasn’t really in the Garzoni style but I thought I could try to capture her painting style. But even though I looked and looked at her paintings, I just can’t figure out what makes her paintings look the way they do. Maybe I just can’t paint in any other style but my own.
I do add my thanks for introducing us to her work. I hope this summer to try to make some nice set ups inspired by her.
I used mostly acrylic inks on watercolour paper, 10×8″ Used a dip pen for fine highlights and signature. Works great with acrylic inks.
Pardon the glare.
C&C always welcome. Michelle

Your painting is truly beautiful. The apples and bowl look so real. Your dark background is great, I like how you charged the colour to a lighter yellow in just the right place. I feel fresh apple pies coming along nicely.
Great composition right down to the steel clip on the knife. Wonderful work. I am really happy to see it.
Cheers
