Wood tick season has started but I don’t think I want to paint one.
I took a photo yesterday. It may be more like Mary Pratt meets Giovanna Garzoni, if I get the style right.

Every painting is a new adventure.May 3, 2020 at 10:27 am #980353…. and I have a click/collect to pick up on Wednesday so there might be something available …. fingers crossed!!
Maybe, in view of current situation, it should be the 21st version, tinned and packaged good on plastic bag!!!
That is funny…. 😁 It would make for an interesting painting… 🍒🍓🌿

You have me on two here…
One is I don’t know what a wood tick is… secondly, I had to look up Dr Mary Pratt. ( Canadian painter died 2018??)
I quite like the toast pic… interesting… eggs in another painting, and kippers in the next… We could do a breakfast series? Just a thought before I head to nodland…Cheers

May 3, 2020 at 1:03 pm #980336Of course I “over did it” in my life so I was side lined from viewing this immediately! What a small world! One of my friends who I met here in Philly but who has returned to Italy a few years ago is related to Garzoni! We’ve briefly talked about her but he’s not into art and she is not a well known artist!
I’m going to give this one a try. I have to focus on getting the easy things down so I’ll start with attempting to replicate the colors she used. I tend toward bright or black and white- no in betweens for me! But it’s a good thing to learn flexibility!
I do have a plan…. not sure yet if I can carry it out but I’m going to try!
Thanks Merri!
Sheila

The question is not what you look at, but what you see.

How amazing that you have a friend who is related to this artist.
So had you ever looked her up prior ?I wonder if she remained ‘hidden’ back then. She was never married, and went off to work :
“was invited to work for the court of Turin by Christina of France in 1632.” so it sounds much like she earned a living quietly.Good to hear you shall give it a go… Looking forward to see what you do.
Cheers

May 3, 2020 at 9:58 pm #980337I am starting a background at this moment!
Came to check out something for a reference…… I’m trying to do this all very informally so I don’t get everything all a mess again! I’m not bringing down any extra supplies… for the moment!

Well done Maureen,
I am impressed that you mentioned quokkas.. I painted a pic of my zoo visit with the grandies which was them patting a quokka and stumped a lot of my Brit friends who had to look it up..
Cheers

May 6, 2020 at 1:30 pm #980344I’ve finished my still life with an added insect….my colors are NOT muted like Garzoni – I have this gorgeous luminescent lemon yellow which I had to purchase as there was a choice of 5 colors in ac available in the town nearest to where I live:eek:

"Painting is my meditation"May 6, 2020 at 4:34 pm #980346This should be an interesting challenge. I cannot do watercolors so I’m gonna have to try to fake it.
Lavendar Frost – a belated Happy Birthday to you! Hope it was a good one!
