Britt, what a sweet painting. I hope you will continue to post here.
Cindy, nicely done, though I didn’t know Bruce Springsteen sang that. Nice sailing picture too.
Colin, it may have been quick but is very expressive. And at least you did something.
Good work on both Jim. I guess you could say I did a version of 4’33”. Btw, the comments on that video are fun to read.
Carl, not sure what you mean there, but any music could have been the inspiration. Cannons would have been cool. I wasn’t familiar with the first song but very cool abstract. And lovely landscape.
Nancy, nicely done. Painting from imagination is not easy.
C&C always welcome. Michelle

Every painting is a new adventure.January 22, 2018 at 11:52 am #535222Carl – both are great! I like your color combination on the abstract.
Nancy – beautiful!Christel
January 22, 2018 at 11:53 am #535083Cindy – lovely painting of the sailboat – with or without the rigging! Fresh sea breeze!
Colin – The stars certainly were bright that night! It’s quite sad but hoping for better – the song not the painting! The painting does portray the feelings though, so even a quickie can accomplish what’s needed!
Jim – that’s brilliant – and I listened all the way through ……. painting is your usual good, painterly approach …… and I think that second one is very clever ……. love your sense of the absurd!
Carl – don’t know the song but I love that first painting – could be ‘The autumn Leaves (drift by my window)’
Good landscape for Morning!:)Nancy – don’t know that song but well done with the painting, it’s hard to use imagination only! … I’m glad I’m not young again ‘Learning to Fly’!
I’m very impressed with the work this month – clever interpretations!
Thank you for all the very nice comments on mine.:)
Cheers, Maureen

These paintings are all so lovely and thought provoking. I’m sure I’ll work on something next month if I can with all the encouragement here. And next time I’ll do my best to keep up and comment on each painting!

Sittin’ in the morning sun, I’ll be sittin’ when the evening comes

Watching the ships roll in, Then I watch them roll away again, yeah

G E G E
I’m sittin’ on the dock of the bay, Watchin’ the tide roll away, ooh
G A G E
I’m just sittin’ on the dock of the bay, Wastin’ time
Verse 2:

I left my home in Georgia, Headed for the Frisco Bay

January 22, 2018 at 5:33 pm #535263Nice, JT. Believe it or not, I first thought that the date stamp in the upper right was a line of Chinese characters. Shows I unconsciously thought it had Japanese influence, I guess.

JT – Nice use of colors and composition, it fits the song well.

January 22, 2018 at 8:03 pm #535231I wanted to come back and comment individually on everyone’s work, and started typing, but my computer ate it… so in general I really enjoyed everyone’s interpretations of their chosen music. What a great variety of lovely works, even when using the same reference!
Thanks for the cool challenge Talisman!

Margaretta – love the style and how you included so many motifs without a cluttered feeling
Britt – love it! precious!
Cindy – well drawn Cadillac! I love how the perspective and “widescreen mode” add to the feel. I love both versions of your boat.
old_hobbyist – well painted and thoughtful
January 22, 2018 at 10:24 pm #535144Mayfly -Carl – Orange and Green what a spritely little tune and the band seemed to be having so much fun! Your painting is wonderful with it’s wild and free style.
Morning has broken…lovely song and a very lovely large painting. I like the warm peek of the sun in the sky and the chill blues of the mountains of trees, wonderful!Orchardist PA – Nancy- Great Tom Petty song. He will be missed. I like the desolation in your painting , he looks great with the guitar case and his long flowing blond hair. Ready to start down that long and lonely road , very touching.
JT Mathis – Cool Dock of the Bay, I like the soft windblown hair and the lonely look of this.

I’m glad you enjoyed it!
I know I did and I got to listen to some new music!
Always fun to do.
By the way I thought of an old song I know that’s just as weird as yours in lyrical content.

January 23, 2018 at 1:13 am #535264Personally, I would like to draw something to “All Along the Watchtower” but I haven’t been able to bring a vision into focus.
